Shimla is one of the most popular hill stations in India. Situated at an elevation of 2220 m above sea level, Shimla offers tourists an unparalleled view and experience. Tourists mainly choose this place to escape from the summer heat.

The British are behind the popularity of Shimla today. The place was considered as one of the best summer destinations in the world by tourists and was their summer capital during the British rule.  Shimla is also known as the 'Summer Residence of India'. Many signs of British rule can still be seen here. Historic buildings and monuments built in colonial architecture are the hallmarks of this region.

Rothney Castle is one of the most important British architectural sites.  Gandhiji, Nehru, Sardar Patel, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Lord Wavell met in 1945 in a bungalow called Manorville Mansion. Another major attraction is the town hall, which was built in 1910. The Rashtrapati Bhavan, a six-storey building built in 1888, is another important attraction in Shimla.

The Seven Hills of Shimla are one of the few places in the world where you can not hear much about Shimla. Shimla, the queen of hills, has seven main hills. Hill, Inverm Hill, Summer Hill, Jaco Hill, Elysium Hill and Bantani Hill. It is through this that one can reach the paradise of Shimla.

A Shimla trip can be done at a very low cost if you book in advance by choosing the exact places and routes to go. The low cost is the main attraction of this place.

One of the must-visit places to visit in Shimla is the Kalka-Shimla Railway.  Railway from Kalka to Shimla. The 96 km long Kalka-Shimla railway line is famous for its narrow gauge track which is 2 feet 6 inches wide. This route has 107 tunnels and 864 bridges. Today, the Kalka-Shimla Railway is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The main points on this route are Kalka, Thaksal, Dharampur, Barong, Solan, Kamtaghat, Summerhills and Shimla.

The Ridge and The Mall Road are some of the must-see places in Shimla. Famous for its pubs and coffee houses, The Mall is one of the best places to visit in Shimla. The main attractions of the place are the food stalls, clubs, pubs and bars that serve a variety of dishes. Ridge is the largest open space in Shimla. Situated close to Mall Road, this place is also the venue for cultural events in the city. Christchurch, the State Library and the Getty Heritage Cultural Complex are located here.

Other important activities in Shimla are camping and trekking. Once here, do not return without trying both. The best time to visit Shimla is during the winters, when skating and skiing are a must. Many people visit Shimla during the summers to see the scenery and trekking
