Hey guys, I am writing about my homeland Sikkim, a Northeastern state of India. This is might tip up you all if you make up your mind to visit here, someday. So let's begin the story….
Sikkim- land of beauty, rich in floura and fauna with abundance of natural scenery, organic food and vegetables.
People- you will find people with asian origin here, with chinky eyes, fair skin, short height and fashionable in attire. People here are warm, kind and helpful. You will find people with different caste and religion mostly Buddhists, Hindus, Christians and Muslims but mostly apart from religion people follow their tradition while celebrating festivals and performing day to day activities. Seperate spirit is worshipped by the people of sikkim from the god we know called kul.
Places to visit- Yuksum, Dzongri, Yumthang, Tsomgo, Gangtok, Namchi, Uttarey, Barsey and so on… it's your choice if you are gonna go for a trek, sightseeing, road drive but you won't see any beaches here, cuz it's a hilly region but you will definitely see breadth taking view of big mountains, river, valleys and fresh air. Roadways are only two lane, so it's best to visit in February to May and from September to November but if you can handle cold climate you can also visit in December and January, but few mountain peaks are not in access due to snow. So make sure you plan accordingly to season and months.
Laws and crimes: Sikkim is least populated state you will find only 2 laks in people in the capital city otherwise you won't find much crowd, you will find big buildings but less shopping malls, but Sikkim has a strict and rigid police force, due to the geographical constraints being a border land to other countries like China, Nepal and Bhutan, you have to obtain a permit while visiting here also some places are restricted for foreigners. So, be sure to carry all your valid documents. In Sikkim, you should abide by laws while travelling, staying and interacting. Its litter free State, plastic free, smoking is not allowed in public places and you can room around freely without the fear of any petty crimes.
Demographic: Dowry free State, and most younger generations are well educated and women have equal status and power to men. So, make sure you won't pass comment to any women around because in Sikkim we don't treat girls as burden for education and marriage. People are free to marry any one of their chooses, we will only by chance witnesses any arranged marriages, rest are all love marriages. No gender bias prevails over here, so it doesn't matter if you are man, women, or from LBGT community you are free and equal.
Slum free State: In Sikkim you won't find beggers, people of Sikkimese origin have land holdings which is not transferable to non Sikkimese origin, and all the houses are pucca houses, so you won't find kuccha houses here and there are no slums here, you are not allowed to sleep in the streets, and wander as homeless or else you will be jailed. Its a peaceful state and very less big crimes are recorded here.
So guys I hope the above tips will work out, as a gesture of how Sikkim is, do write in comments section if you wanna know anything more about it… I will be happy to write again….
