Have you ever felt a sudden wave of intense anger, an urge to shout and to throw things aggressively or a hard burning feeling flowing from abdomen to throat and to brain, when you hear a particular sound or voice ????
If any of these reactions you have ever given when exposed to specific sound, then probably you might be having MISOPHONIA, which is a brain based disorder . It is a disorder in which certain sounds trigger emotional or physiological responses that some might perceive as unreasonable given the circumstances.
Individuals with misophonia often report they are triggered by noise someone makes while eating, chewing or even breathing. Some misophonics are also triggered by loud voice.
The person having misophonia experiences mild to severe reactions to specific sounds, mild reactions may include anxious, uncomfortable, the urge to run away from there, shouting, while severe responses may include anger, rage, hatred, breathlessness, headache, emotional distress.
Why this happens ???
There is no valid cause that leads to misophonia but researchers say it's a brain based disorder. The individual may consider this disorder to be caused by what they perceive to be the trauma of hearing normal environmental sounds.
Misophonia tends to co-occur with mental disorders like obsessive compulsive disorder, obsessive compulsive personality disorder, Tourette's disorder, and eating disorders.
It is more common in girls than boys.
Treatment
There is no dedicated therapy or treatment to this disorder but there are certain behavioral and cognitive exercises that can be practiced to reduce the symptoms to a great extent that it will no longer disturb the psychological, emotional and social functioning of a person having misophonia.
๐๐ผAvoid being in such environment where you feel triggered.
๐๐ผ Music Therapy - listen to calm music and sing along (tip- don't listen to music while lying on bed but listen while doing slow walks and you can move and dance too while walking, feel free dear! )
๐๐ผ Before going to bed say these lines to yourself with full confidence and belief "Those sound don't bother me at all " i am fit and fine". (Tip- say it with a strong belief as if it's a fact).
๐๐ผExercise and yoga. (Tip- "om ucharan" is really effective as it gives vibration to your entire body and brain too which helps relieve pressure).
