A few days ago, there was a news that the massive solar flare seen in the upper right limb of the sun at whole night, but next day that solar flare disappeared even faster. This solar flare was the biggest in four years and it caused a small radio blackout in the Atlantic region. NASA Give this information by releasing a video.
Now take a look, there are different types of radiation layers from the sun i.e.,
1. GAMMA – it is most damaging Ray’s but they don’t penetrate earth’s atmosphere.
2. X-RAYS
3. U V RAYS- UV rays are harmful for all and absorbed by the earth’s atmosphere.
4. VISSIBLE LIGHT-the only light which we can see.
5. INFRARED RAYS
6. MICROWAVES
7. RADIO WAVES- these rays have less amount of energy and these rays reach earth’s surface from the sun.
So basically, Radio-blackout event occurs when the rapid and Strong explosion of X-rays which are comes from the solar flares, hits the Earth’s atmosphere and because of this hitting , both high and low frequency radio signals or waves get jammed and these X-Rays disturbs the ionosphere layer of earth’s atmosphere.
Note: - Radio waves are travel through the ionosphere layer.
According to the report, this solar flare has appeared in a sunspot named AR2838.
SOLAR FLARES- According to the NASA, solar flares are the quick explosion of radiation which comes from the magnetic energy related to the sunspot. solar flares known to be the largest explosive events in the solar system.
Usually, the solar flares take place in after regions where strong magnetic fields are present on the Sun.
This Solar flare Which is observed recently, is belongs to the first X-class solar flare category which means this is the strongest type solar flare which is mainly responsible for the instant radio blackouts and strong storms on the Sun. Therefore, the first X-class is the most dangerous class of solar flares.
Fortunately, we are lucky that these solar flare’s dangerous radiations cannot pass through the atmosphere of the earth. But these flares is so powerful that they can attack on human technology very easily like communication and GPS satellite and unfortunately , these flares are dangerous for astronauts life on the International Space Station as well.
