The skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates was initially named the Burj Dubai before its opening, it is now known as the Burj Khalifa. It is the tallest building in the world. The Burj Khalifa, standing at 829.8 m tall (2,722 ft) with a roof height of 828 m (2,717 ft), has been the world's tallest building since it was completed in 2009, surpassing Taipei 101…

Construction work on the Burj Khalifa commenced in 2004, and the outer structure was finished in 2009. The main framework consists of reinforced concrete with some structural steel from the Palace of the Republic in East Berlin, the former East German parliament. It was inaugurated in 2010 as part of the new Downtown Dubai development. It was intended to serve as the focal point of a mixed-use development on a large scale.

The structure was given the name of the ex-president of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Dubai received financial aid from the UAE government after the developer, Emaar Properties, faced financial issues during the 2007-2008 financial crisis. At that time, Khalifa bin Zayed, who was the president of the United Arab Emirates, coordinated federal financial assistance. During the inauguration, Mohammad bin Rashid, the ruler of Dubai, renamed the building from "Burj Dubai" to "Burj Khalifa" to show his support.

This design is based on local Islamic architecture, such as the Great Mosque of Samarra. The three-dimensional floor geometry of the Y has been designed to optimize the living and hotel space. A main core and strong wings are used to support the height of the building. Although the design is based on the Burj III, the Burj Khalifa has all vertical traffic in the center except for the exit stairs in each wing. The structure also includes a coating system designed to withstand the scorching heat of Dubai. In total, there are 57 lifts and 8 climbs..

The construction started on January 12, 2004, and the outside of the structure ended on October 1, 2009.This building was officially opened on January 4, 2010  and is part of the development of 2 km2 central 2 km 2 city (490 acres). In Dubai, Dubai, Dubai is the first interchange along the Shake -Saidroad near the main Dubai business district.

The tower's architecture and design was carried out by Chicago firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with Adrian Smith as lead architect and Bill Baker as lead structural engineer. The firm designed Chicago's Sears Tower, which previously held the record for the tallest building in the world.

Hyder Consulting led the engineering and NORR Group Consultants led the architecture. The prime contractor was South Korea's Samsung C&T, working with Belgium's BESIX Group and local firm Arabtec.

Many of the complaints concerned migrant workers from South Asia, who make up a large portion of the workforce in the construction sector, who were paid low wages and sometimes had their passports confiscated.
