There has been an exponential surge in hate crimes and racist comments recently mostly after the COVID-19 pandemic broke out. Every now and then the westerners have openly made vile and degrading comments on Asians. Such incidents have been taking place in Europe as well as American states from always but their frequency has increased since last year. In fact incidents like the death of George Floyd, last year portrays the American culture in an extremely pathetic light.

I find it quite ironic that citizens of the first world and so-called developed and cultured nations have become so narcissistic and narrow-minded that they are continuously launching attacks and making racist slurs on non-natives. In fact, one would have rarely heard that an American bullied a European or vice versa because of their European or American descent, but for African and Asian people, they have almost made it impossible for them to lead a dignified life. Marred with the accusations of atrocities against black, looks like they haven't had enough already and now are targeting Asian descent people as well. 

This is another wave of oppression in the 21st century where the third world developing countries which are marking their significant contribution to the world's economy and politics, are being looked down upon and hence face such resentful acts against them.  Asians have been facing constant threats and have been publically assaulted and beaten up and all this coming from a country that houses people from almost every part of the world.

There is definitely a superiority complex in the westerners which has almost made them unempathetic and rigid to the global changes. The 21st century is the Asian century and yet they refuse to acknowledge it and wish to stay in the imaginary bubble of being the best. Unfortunately, they don't realize that their phones, television, automotive, medicines and almost everything is manufactured in Asian nations. That their very own Silicon valley has more Asians than Americans, and where is the superiority they are bragging about. 

Recently after the Grammy's nomination of a South Korean boy band, the western media could not digest the fact that some Asian kids have managed to break their own records because throughout their life they have been living in the delusion of being the superior race. This band was compared to the COVID-19 virus and also lambasted for covering a song by a white singer. 

But the assuring part is the response that their own countrymen gave which reflected that such hate-mongers are definitely in minority and they need to be fought with full strength. World today has become extremely permeable and and with the technological innovations the east and the west have come closer than ever. We certainly need to carry this forward to have a unified and tolerant world where things like racsim and hate crimes are things of the recent past.

This generation has the power to shatter the stereotypes and come together to fight the bigger issues like pollution, environmental issues and scarcity of clean drinking water and food for every person and obviously the pandemics like the present one.
