Chennai Super Kings' Ravindra Jadeja in action against Royal Challengers Bangalore. (IPL)
Ravindra Jadeja smashed 37 runs off the last over of the Chennai Super Kings batting innings against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2021 match on Sunday. Harshal Patel, who had been one of the best death overs bowlers of the season so far, was the unfortunate bowler put to the sword as Jadeja went berserk in the 20th over.
Here is the sequence of the 20th over of the CSK innings: 6 6 N6 6 2 6 4
CSK posted 191/4 in their 20 overs vs RCB on the back of Jadeja’s final over assault. Harshal Patel, Purple Cap holder, had figures of 3/14 in 3 overs before the final over assault. He finished with unflattering figures of 3/51.
The record for the most runs scored in an over in the IPL is now jointly held by Jadeja and Chris Gayle, who had also smashed 37 runs in an over in IPL 2011. Gayle, then playing for RCB, had sent Kochi Tuskers Kerala’s Prasanth Parameshwaran to the cleaners on that occasion.

After his pyrotechnics with the bat, smacking Harshal Patel for a record 37 runs in the final over, Ravindra Jadeja weaved magic with the ball too by taking two wickets.
Hello and welcome to Sportstar's LIVE coverage of IPL 2021 where Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in match 19 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
RCB 104/9 after 17 overs: It's just a matter of time before CSK takes pole position and RCB just delaying the inevitable. Need 88 runs in 18 balls.
RCB 103/9 after 16 overs: WICKET! Imran Tahir with a direct hit brings Jamieson's cameo to an end and this has been a commendable performance from the men in yellow.
RCB 95/8 after 15 overs: This game has almost slipped away from Bangalore's grasp and all credit to Jadeja who has been the star performer. Shardul Thakur being back in the attack gives just a single.
RCB 94/8 after 14 overs: WICKET! Top catch from Raina as Tahir picks his second and that's the end of Navdeep Saini. Thick edge, flew low to first slip and Raina juggled it before grabbing it cleanly.
RCB 93/7 after 13 overs: End of Jadeja's spell and he finishes with magnificent figures of 4-1-13-3 and he has singlehandedly put CSK on top.
RCB 89/7 after 12 overs: WICKET! Imran Tahir strikes and he removes Harshal Patel to leave Bangalore seven down. Bangalore need to be careful and should aim to play out the complete 20 overs keeping in mind the net run-rate. Going by this rate, CSK is on course to inflict the first loss.
RCB 83/6 after 11 overs: WICKET! Jadeja has three and he has castled Ab de Villiers and that should be the game for Chennai. De Villiers goes for the drive but Jadeja beats him with turn to castle the stumps.
RCB 83/5 after 10 overs: WICKET! A run-out and it's Jadeja again in action and this time with the throw as he catches Daniel Christian short of his crease.
RCB 79/4 after 9 overs: Huge Wicket! Jadeja strikes again and this time he removes the dangerous Glenn Maxwell. He can't do anything wrong today and this time he cleans up Maxwell, who goes for a wild slog only to see his leg stump castled.
RCB 73/3 after 8 overs: Excellent start from Tahir as he gives just five and there is something for the spinners and RCB under a little bit of pressure. Spinners operating in tandem and they need to play out rather apply themselves to nullify the spinners.
RCB 68/3 after 7 overs: WICKET! What a game Jadeja is having and he strikes straightaway as he removes Washington Sundar, who stepped out but didn't get the connection right as Ruturaj Gaikwad takes a good catch in the deep. De Villiers joins Maxwell.
RCB 65/2 after 6 overs: CSK has packed off the openers but Bangalore off to a flying start and inside the Powerplay they have done the damage. Maxwell is away with a couple of boundaries and with Ab de Villiers in the shed, RCB is very much in the game.
RCB 54/2 after 5 overs: WICKET! Huge one as Shardul Thakur strikes to remove Devdutt Padikkal and that's a severe blow for Bangalore. Padikkal was batting with complete authority until this happened. Short of length delivery and Padikkal goes for the pull but finds Suresh Raina at backward square leg, who was stationed exactly for that reason. Raina points to Dhoni in delight and CSK, despite leaking runs has nailed the RCB openers. Maxwell takes guard.
RCB 45/1 after 4 overs: WICKET! Sam Curran strikes and he removes the RCB skipper as Kohli was caught off guard with the pace as he went for the cut, thinking it was a slower one but only ended up getting a thick outside edge and Dhoni pouches a clean catch. Much-needed wicket for CSK and that brings Washington Sundar into the middle.
RCB 44/0 after 3 overs: Thunderous from Padikkal and he is making most of the Powerplay! The southpaw first goes over the mid-off and then goes over point and finishes the over with a brilliant pull as the ball beats the shirt fine leg fielder and runs into the fence.
RCB 28/0 after 2 overs: Devdutt Padikkal is continuing from where he has left in the previous match as he smokes Sam Curran for two sixes and Bangalore off to a flying start in chase of 192. First he picks Curran over the deep square leg and then goes over the backward point for a maximum.
RCB 10/0 after 1 over: Bright start for RCB as Virat Kohli is off the mark with a neat flick to the fine leg boundary and then Padikkal gets off the mark with a loft over the bowler's head for a boundary.
Alright after a record 37-run over by Ravindra Jadeja, we are back for the chase as Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal are in the middle and it will be Deepak Chahar with the new ball.
End of Innings: CSK 191/4 after 20 overs: What a finish by CSK - thanks to Jadeja's pyrotechnics with the bat. He smoked Harshal Patel for a four sixes in a row and got to his half-century in just 25 balls. A drop catch allowed Jadeja to take a couple and then the southpaw smacked Harshal for yet another maximum much to the delight of the yellow army. In the final ball, Jadeja whacked for a boundary making it a 37-run over as CSK finished on 191/4.
CSK 154/1 after 19 overs: 150 up for Chennai and what a lovely cameo Jadeja is playing. Siraj is bowling fast and bumps in a short ball, Jadeja swings and gets a top edge as the ball flies to the boundary. Chennai will hope to make most of the last over to reach the 180-run mark.
CSK 145/4 after 18 overs: Harshal Patel picks his third wicket of the match and what a fantastic spell this has been. Yet another slower ball, Rayudu fails to pick it up as he shuffles across and hits it straight down the throat of Jamieson at the deep. Now that brings MS Dhoni into the middle and the skipper is off the mark with a single to long-on.
CSK 140/3 after 17 overs: Rayudu is clearly struggling to run after he might have pulled his hamstring and SIraj caps off an excellent over, giving just six runs from his third. Rayudu is banking on boundaries, which means Jadeja cannot push his partner to run quickly between the wickets.
CSK 134/3 after 16 overs: Jamieson has been taken to the cleaners as Jadeja pockets two consecutive boundaries - one over kid-off and then took advantage of the fact that fine was up in the circle. Rayudu then hit Jamieson out of the ground as the charged down the track, got hold of the slower one and smoked it wide over long-on.
CSK 117/3 after 15 overs: Drop catch and misfield as Ravindra Jadeja earns a life with Daniel Christian putting down a dolly and then Rayudu cashes in with a boundary as Washington Sundar is in disbelief.
CSK 111/3 after 14 overs: Double Blow - Harshal Patel with two huge wickets has got RCB back in the game as Raina and Du Plessis fall, paving way to the new set of Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja. The lack of pace has done in both the batsmen as Raina fell while trying to up the ante and Du Plessis right after reaching his half-century tried to go over the top but failed to clear the fielder.
CSK 110/1 after 13 overs: The 100 is up for Chennai and it's come in style with Raina helping a Saini back of length delivery over the long leg for a maximum. The short ball tactics is on and after a swing and a miss, Raina gets inside the line of the delivery and uses the pace of Saini to add a maximum to his kitty. Time for a break.
CSK 97/1 after 12 overs: Raina isn't holding back as he skips down the track and despite not reaching to the pitch of the delivery, managed to tonk Sundar high and just over the fielder at deep and this is a solid foundation. He just went with the flow and the timing allowed the ball to cross the ropes.
CSK 90/1 after 11 overs: Raina has settled into his role of not only rotating the strike but also finding the fence as he drills Christian wide of mid-wicket and most importantly has picked the gap beautifully to drive Chennai ahead. Du Plessis is eight short of his half-century.
CSK 93/1 after 10 overs: There's the breakthrough and it's Chahal who has broken the opening stand by removing the well-set Ruturaj Gaikwad. The change of ends has worked for Chahal and Gaikwad falls for a sweep as he only manages a top-edge as Jamieson settles under the skier. Suresh Raina, meanwhile, after surviving a run-out smokes Chahal well over long-on for a maximum.
CSK 74/0 after 9 overs: Dan Christian starts well and the medium pacer has stopped the flow of boundaries and created some pressure as Bangalore aims to break this stand.
CSK 68/0 after 8 overs: Du Plessis adds another boundary to his credit as Washington Sundar with a misfield has released the little pressure that Harshal Patel created.
CSK 70/0 after 7 overs: Ruturaj exhibiting a rang of strokes as time he lofts Chahal straight ovver the sightscreen and that was pure timing. Floated delivery and Ruturaj just swings his bat through the line. Chennai going strong and once again it's the opening stand that has laid a solid platform.
CSK 51/0 after 6 overs: Fifty up for Chennai and Ruturaj ends the Powerplay with a classox cover drive and both the openers are oozing in confidence. CSK off to a strong start as Navdeep Saini starts in an expensive fashion giving 14 as Bangalore aims to break the stand.
CSK 37/0 after 5 overs: Spin into the attack and it's Yuzvendra Chahal but there is no stopping Ruturaj as he punches the leg-spinner through the cover-point region and this has been a superb start by Chennai.
CSK 31/0 after 4 overs: Du Plessis once again gets down the track and lofts Jamieson well over mid-on for a boundary and then pulls out a fierce cut as the bowler goes short and wide. CSK up and running after opting to bat first.
CSK 21/0 after 3 overs: Excellent from Du Plessis as he gets down the pitch and lofts Siraj for a maximum over long-on and then Ruturaj steps out deliberately drills Siraj uppishly over the mid-off and the ball evades the tall Jamieson at mid-off.
CSK 10/0 after 2 overs: Kyle Jamieson starts well as he gives just four runs from his opening over. Ruturaj is off the mark but manages to survive as he checks his shot at the last minute and the ball flies towards mid-off and bounces just in front of Virat Kohli.
CSK 6/0 after 1 over: Faf du Plessis is away in some style as he leans into an overpitched delivery from Siraj and drives it through the wide of covers for a boundary. Siraj comes back well as he bowls a yorker that Du Plessis keeps away and then gets one to beat Ruturaj's defence to end the over.
Right then the two umpires make their way to the middle and out come the Chennai openers. Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad stroll out and out sprint the RCB outfit, led by Virat Kohli. We are all set for the first afternoon game at the Wankhede and it will be Ruturaj facing Mohammed Siraj, who is ready to steam in. Here we go!

Chennai Super Kings will have to find a way past the three musketeers - Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell - in its quest to breach Royal Challengers Bangalore’s fortress.
RCB is on a dream run. It has four wins in four games. And the second-placed CSK has been victorious in three out of four. Sparks are bound to fly in the day game.
The surface at Wankhede has some pace and the ball does come on to the bat.
RCB is not about the Big Three alone. Young opener Devdutt Padikkal notched up a spectacular hundred against Rajasthan Royals.
There will be some seam movement and CSK’s lively Deepak Chahar will be a distinct threat. And Lungi Ngidi bowled with pace and venom against KKR.
Ravindra Jadeja is turning the ball across the bat’s face and can hurt line-ups.
