I think every one is familiar with chipko movement.Sunderlal Bahuguna is a Leading environmentalist and the leader of the Chipko (Hug the Tree) movement is no more. Bahuguna, who was admitted to AIMS Hospital in Hrishikesh on May 8 with Corona, has been in critical condition since Thursday night. He died at Hrishikesh Aims Hospital here at 12.05 pm on Friday due to a gradual drop in oxygen levels while undergoing seapop treatment in the ICU. His body was laid to rest on Friday evening at Poornananda Ghat on the banks of the Ganges in Hrishikesh with full government ceremonies. From the hospital, his body was wrapped in a national flag and brought to Poornanand Ghat. There, the Uttarakhand police paid their respects to him. Dehradun District Collector Ashish Kumar Srivastava and SSP Yogendra Rawat paid tributes by placing bouquets on his body. Later Bahuguna's son Rajiv Nayan Bahuguna set fire to his pyre. Sundarral Bahuguna is survived by his wife Vimala, two sons and a daughter Madhu.

Sudarlal Bahuguna was one of the earliest environmentalists in India. He was born on January 9, 1927, in the village of Maroda in the Tehrigadwal district of Uttarakhand. He took part in the independence struggle at the age of 13. Who was jailed at the age of 17? After that, he turned to politics for some years. When the forest contractors came to cut down the trees, all the local women humanely formed around the tree and stopped them. Sunderlal Bahuguna was not the creator of the Chihko movement.
