On Friday, Chennai's Vels University conferred an honorary degree on former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina (August 5). Suresh Raina, a former Indian cricketer, was awarded an honorary doctorate by Chennai's Vels University. In a special convocation conducted on the college grounds on Friday, the Chennai-based university presented Raina with the significant honour (August 5).

Images from the convocation event were shared by Raina on his official Twitter account. Raina claimed in the post that he was touched by the kindness and humbled to earn the honour. He also discussed his affection for Chennai and the unique place it has in his heart.

"I'm grateful to the great VELS Institute of Science & Technology & Advanced Studies @VelsVistas @IshariKGanesh Sir for this recognition. I'm touched by all the love, and I want to express my sincere gratitude. My home is in Chennai, and it holds a special place for me "Raina posted on his official Twitter page.

Over the course of a 13-year international career, Raina represented Team India in a total of 18 Test matches, 226 ODIs, and 78 T20Is. He made his first national team appearance in 2005, and his last one was in 2018. Just a few minutes later than MS Dhoni, he declared his 2020 international cricket retirement. He played a crucial role in the team that won the 2011 World Cup for India.

Raina has continued to play domestic and franchise cricket despite giving up international cricket. He was a member of the 2021 IPL champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team. To the surprise of many, Raina was not purchased at the 2022 IPL mega auction when CSK decided not to keep him.

Since the Indian Premier League's (IPL) start in 2008, Raina has been a member of CSK and has consistently been one of the finest players in the league. Raina was selected as the Gujarat Lions' captain while CSK was out of the IPL for two years.
