Sir M. Visvesvaraya, 1St Engineer Of India

Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was the 1st Engineer of India. He was born at 15th September 1860 in Muddenahalli (chikkaballapura district) Karnataka. He was the Indian civil Engineer were he served from 1912 to 1919 at 19th century. He completed his degree from one of the best and 3rd oldest Engineering college in Asia. The college was located at pune known as college of Engineering. Since he was the 1st and best Engineer of India, his birthday on 15th September is celebrated as Engineer' s day in India, Sri lanka and Tanzania. 

In Bombay Visvesvaraya took job as assistant engineer from public work department, then he joined the Indian irrigation commission. He constructed a system of irrigation in Deccan Plateau and again it was designed and modified a system of automatic weir water floodgates. It was installed in 1903 at Khadakwasla  Reservoir at pune. In the reservoir the storage level raises by the gates at the highest level without causing damage to the dam. Since this system was successful the same project was constructed at Gwalior known as Tigra Dam and in Mandya Mysore Krishnaraja Sagar Dam. Due to successful works done by Visvesvaraya, Government of India sent him to the Aden. There he studied the water supply and drainage system and created the project. The project was successfully constructed by Visvesvaraya at the Aden. When he was working with the Government of Mysore, he found the factory known as Mysore Soap Factory and even he found the Mysore Iron and steel works which now is Known as Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Limited in Bhadravathi. He even planned to construct road from Tirumala to Tirupati.

Due to his successful works, in November 1909 he became a Chief Engineer of Mysore sate, and next in 1912 he was appointed as Diwan (second minister) of Mysore. He served for 7 years. Krishnaraja wodeyar IV who was Maharaja of Mysore supported him to build the development of Mysore. In 1917 he found a Government Engineer college at Bangalore which was one of the 1st Engineering Institutes in India. We can see the Visvesvaraya museum were it consists of various scientific experiments.  He was awarded by the India's highest honour, Bharat Ratna at 1955
