This story is to let you know how important it is to be empathetic towards others because you never know what the other person is going through. The core focus of a person should be itself and one should not criticize others. Let's see in context of this story.
Once there was a king who had a dog. The king was very fond of his dog. The dog used to accompany the king to each and every place, be it king's court or any other important place. The dog used to get all the royal treatment and the villagers were also very angry at this because the king used to give more attention to the dog instead of his kingdom.
Once a situation evolved where the king had to go to another kingdom in order to meet him through sea route. As usual the dog accompanied him in the voyage. The king with his ministers and soldiers with few other passengers were travelling by a boat. However, it was the first time that the dog was travelling by a boat and when the boat started its journey the dog was very uncomfortable because of the movement of the boat. The dog started roaming here and there and also started jumping on he boat.
All the passengers got frightened upon watching this but initially the king was very happy on watching the dog playing and dancing as the dog was was very close to the king but after some time he also got worried about the dog's behavior. The passengers started talking among themselves that what's the need of bringing the dog on a boat? All of these were happening then a philosopher went up to the king and said that Oh king! we really need to do something otherwise everyone's life will be in danger and the boat might turn upside down. The king asked the philosopher to do whatever he can do to stop the dog.
The philosopher with two other passengers picked up the dog and went to the other side of the boat and threw the dog in the water. The dog got frightened and started throwing its legs in every direction and got hold onto the boat and kept swimming. After few minutes, the philosopher took the dog out of the water and left it on the boat. To everyone's surprise, the dog slowly walked and sat down at one of the corner of the boat.
Upon watching this, the king asked the philosopher that what did he do that the dog got quite all of a sudden? Then the philosopher replied that it's very simple formula, one cannot understand other's situation until and unless they go through the same problem.
Moral- Before criticizing others we must see what the other person might be going through. Before jumping to any sort of conclusion, we must feel the other person's circumstances.
