Huh! Such a filling and toothsome dish it is, isn't it? How were you feeling while/after finishing it? Happy? Is it the definition of happiness? Eating a cheese burger? No. Okay, then how do we define it?
Here comes the tough part, happiness cannot be given a single definition or description, there are 7.9 billion(world population count) different definitions for it.
How do we define happiness for ourselves? What does truly make us happy? How do we find it? Look around - try finding things that make you happy. Make a list of them. Is it big or is it small?
The truth is, the list of the things that can make you happy is gigantic. Anything and Everything you look at has the capability of making you happy. But, does this mean that you've to extract happiness out of everything that you find?

Instead of blaming the person for not doing things the way you expected them to, trying to extract happiness from them and their actions - try expressing that you're happy at least they tried it. Does this change the situation. Yes! It makes a huge difference.
A person who expects and extracts less and expresses happiness and gratitude is a person who's in a state of serene happiness.
Yes, happiness can be a phase of your life, but it can stay as long as you want it to stay. It's more of a choice than it's a phase.
Instead of getting unhappy or disappointed that a certain thing has happened, think of all the positive events it'll lead you to. Take a deep breath and comfort yourself.
We find many gurus preaching that separation makes you find a unique happiness. May be, May be not. But, the real composure and happiness can be found not by separating ourselves but unifying with the universe and enjoying every grain, every drop, every small particle of it.
