Hey all,
A few days back I came across this very common statement by a person that humanities or arts stream is for losers or for people who don’t usually score well in their 10th boards and then they only get this one stream and no other choice is left to them because of which they have to opt for this stream. And I also know that most of the people have this thing in their minds, that arts stream is extremely easy and all of those things. But let me tell you I belong from this same stream and please don’t think that just because I belong from this stream; I will only speak in its favour. The only thing I’m here against is this mindset which most of the people nowadays have developed that taking arts is not a good thing and I have even heard that in some houses it is opposed too. Even when the child wants to opt for this stream he/she is told or even forced not to choose this stream just because they all have developed this stereotype that children only opt for this stream when they have scored passing marks. And mostly, parents won’t let their children opt for this stream just because of such reasons only. I understand that earlier there were not many options available in this stream which also made it difficult for the students to opt for it but today there are more options for career options in humanities than in any of the other two streams. So, today one may desire to take this stream.
Also, I request all the parents out there who go by what people say and all of that and just because of this thinking of theirs they don’t let their ward take their desired stream and I have seen students being not happy, not able to focus, not being able to score well in their parents chosen streams. And these 2 years matter a lot in their new future as accordingly, they get to choose their higher studies and further their career too based on the stream chosen by them. Ergo, it becomes very pivotal to not pressurize or even force your children for a thing like this and let them do what makes them happy because they will be more focused, happy, successful and concentrated in their chosen sides than they can ever be.
Thank you.
