Po tells Tigress that he wants to approach Kai close enough to apply a Wuxi Finger Hold, but Tigress tells him that won't work due to Kai's army. To confront Kai together, Li, Mr. Ping, and the pandas seek Po to teach them kung fu. Po teaches them to apply their daily routines as kung fu abilities instead of having them mimic his kung fu after realizing what had previously caused him to fail as a teacher. Po and Li make up in between training sessions, and they both get ready for Kai's onslaught.

After arriving, Kai attacks the village with his zombies. Po's students engage in combat with them, deterring Kai long enough for Po to attempt sending him back to the Spirit Realm using the Wuxi Finger Hold method. He remembers the chi and defeats Po when Kai discloses that the technique is only effective on mortals and that he is a spirit warrior. Po seizes Kai in order to save the others, and he applies the Wuxi Finger Hold to himself, consigning both of them to the Spirit Realm.Kai is enraged to be back in the spirit realm and strikes Po viciously, attempting to take his chi and transform him into a zombie. Li leads the others in the Mortal Realm to offer their chi to Po after realizing that the secret to accessing chi is discovering one's true self. After being resurrected, Po uses his enhanced chi to disarm Kai and overwhelm him with energy, destroying him.

The kung fu masters' chi has been restored and their normalcy has returned since Kai's departure. Oogway tells Li in the Spirit Realm that he sent Po a cosmic message that included directions to find him and the reasoning behind his selection of Po as the Dragon Warrior—Po had the capacity to master both kung fu and chi while still a panda. With a sense of pride, Oogway names Po the Grand Master and hands over his mystic staff, which Po uses to enter the Mortal Realm. Po rejoins the others and assumes his new position at the renovated Jade Palace, where the people living in the Valley of Peace and the pandas are taught kung fu and chi.
