Hi there everyone!! I'm back with another travel blog and this time we will get to know about a state famous for its agriculture and tourism-- Sikkim.
Situated in the northeastern part of our country and bordered by Nepal in the west, West Bengal in the south, Tibet in the north and Bhutan in the east, Sikkim is the second smallest state in India.
Not only Sikkim is well known for its enchanting beauty and mesmeric charm but also for its biodiversity and majestic flora and fauna. This state holds its position for world's second largest producer of spices and it shares the largest in the production of cardamom in India. This is the most environmentally alerted state in India which even banned plastic water bottles.
When to visit: Either between March to June or November to February. However this land has to offer you its own different grandeurs in different seasons. Hence its up to you to choose which season would be apt for you to visit this land of unparalleled natural beauty.
Despite its position in the size wise list of states in our country, what this state has to offer is beyond comparison. Home to various mountain peaks, hot springs, glaciers, high-altitude lakes and rivers, Sikkim is the perfect place for mountaineers and hodophile. These are some best places to visit in Sikkim:
Gangtok is the largest and capital city of Sikkim which serves a perfect place for both nature lovers and adventure lovers. Beautiful sightseeing places like Nathula Pass and Tsomgo lake and Buddhist monasteries like Rumtek and Enchey are ease for eyes. Activities like river rafting, mountain biking, cable car rides and several others are much famous for audacious people. The third highest peak in the world, Kanchenjunga Mountain is situated in Gangtok. This place is also famous for the annual International Flower Festival displaying a wide variety of flowers in the month of May.
This scenic town is blessed with several waterfalls and lots of breathtaking glances of mother nature. This town offers you the tremendous views of Himalayas and Kanchenjunga peak. Ancient monasteries and wonderful bridges are the highlights of this town. Pelling has India's first glass skywalk perched high in the mountains. The salubrious and delightful climate throughout the year makes it more easy for one to visit this place anytime. Many trekking trails start from Pelling. This place experience snowfall during winters due to its high altitude.
Labelled as the most picturesque village of Sikkim by Joseph Dalton in his book βThe Himalayan Journalβ and one of the most charming tourist attraction of Sikkim, Lachung is famous for its surreal natural beauty. Located at a height of 8610ft, this place is a popular snow destination in the state. This unexplored mountain village has lots of fruit orchards, glacier rivers and tall mountains with gushing waterfalls will make you fall in love this place even more. Despite its scenic beauty, roads of Lachung become inaccessible during monsoon and winter. So visiting this village with ample time in hands is advisable.
As stated by its name, Namchi proves to be one of the most magnificent cities in Sikkim. This city is more famous as a pilgrim place among the Buddhists. Many hindu devotees also visit this place in Sikkim to behold the famous 108ft tall statue of Lord Shiva. The capital of South Sikkim, Namchi, helds a popular Namchi Mahotsav displaying state's culture and tourism. Tendong Hill and Ralong Monasteries are pre-dominant in Namchi.
One of the highest freshwater Lakes in the world, Tso Lhsmo Lake is considered as a sacred lake by some devotees. They say that this whole lake freezes during winter except a small portion that never freezes no matter how extreme are winters as that area is blessed by Lord Padmasambhava. Due to the High altitude of 17800ft one can face breathing problems while visiting this place. Also known as Gurudongmar, this lake is believed to solve the fertility issues of women who drink this lakewater. This lake offers a mesmerizing view of Gurudongmar Valley.
