India is the largest producer of milk in the world and the biggest exporter of dairy milk powder worldwide.

Milk is unique and is known as the complete food, since the beginning of time, milk has been a part of our diet and this true irrespective of which part of the world we belong to.

Every food has protein, minerals, vitamins and proteins in proportion, it is only milk that is different because it contains all the nutrients needed for our body to function smoothly.

Milk appears to be white in colour because of the water that is mixed with protein and fat that is reflected by the light making it look white, it is interesting to note that water is colourless but looks blue in colour when we view it due to the sunlight reflected by the water.

There are many dairy products that are made from milk such as butter, cheese and yoghurt which are popular and are consumed more than milk.

We can drink milk from different animal like the cow, goat and camel, but cow's milk is the one that is most consumed by humans.

The name Milky Way is something that comes from the Greeks, who called it the milky circle, because according to Greek mythology the galaxy was formed from milk of the gods.

Milk like substitutes have been used for a long time, alternatives such as almond milk and soy milk are called milk but they are not the same as animal milk.

June 1st is observed as World Milk Day by the Food and Agriculture Organization, to make people realise the significance of milk as a food that is consumed throughout the world.

India has played a major role in making people aware of the importance of milk in their diet, the White Revolution was started by Doctor Verghese Kurien who single handled changed the dairy industry for the better in the country.

After independence, India was a country that suffered from low milk production, the white revolution changed this and helped India to become a global power in the dairy industry.

The white revolution was not just about an increase in milk production, it introduced modern methods of producing high quality milk and dairy products that could provide health benefits for all.

Drinking one glass of milk can promote health and wellbeing, it helps to keep you from feeling depressed and having a negative attitude towards life, it can help you to regain a positive outlook towards life and be optimistic.

The high amount of protein that is found in milk, helps to control the constant feeling of wanting to eat something and can help you to control your weight.

Milk contains calcium and vitamins which is needed to keep your bones healthy.

Studies have shown that people who live in areas that do not get enough sunlight can suffer from certain types of cancer and also lack of Vitamin D, drinking milk can help to prevent this from taking place.

It is interesting to note that milk is a food that we consume in liquid form and flavoured milk such as strawberry, vanilla and chocolate milk are more popular than the real thing.
