Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a health problem that affects our mental ability where we feel anxious, worried and depressed about an event that has taken place in our life and we find it difficult to deal with it and move on with our lives.
Most people do not realise that they are suffering from PTSD, it is a dangerous health condition because it can affect an individual at any time regardless of age and social circumstances, some people recover over a period of time but for some it takes years for people to overcome their fear and lead normal lives.
Here are some of the indicators that you maybe suffering from PTSD:
A) Experiencing an event that brings sadness and grief such as the loss of a loved one and being unable to deal with it as we develop a feeling of guilt and blame ourselves for not taking care of that person and in the process we are putting a strain on our mental health by thinking about something that is beyond our control.
B) Being in a hostile environment where people make fun of you and look down upon your failure to adjust and be a part of a group, this is a problem which we experience both in school and at the workplace where we are constantly reminded that we are nobody and as a result we start staying away from people and are alone most of the time.
C) Isolation makes us stressed and anxious, we start thinking negatively about others and assume that everyone wants to harm us on purpose, this kind of attitude has a negative impact on our way of life and we find it difficult to function as normal human beings.
D) Being stressed all the time is harmful because you cannot think clearly and are angry all the time because you do not get enough sleep and are nervous and scared about doing daily tasks which we take for granted such as answering calls, traveling by public transport and talking to friends and colleagues.
Now that we know the signs of PTSD, we need to take some steps that can overcome this problem:
People who suffer from PTSD, live in denial and think that by avoiding the problem it will go away, the best thing to do is to have the courage to acknowledge the problem and put an end to whatever it is that is preventing you from leading a normal life.
