Considering the disruption caused by pandemic where millions of people are at risk of falling into poverty. They say that everything has positive and negative consequences, on the bright side there are many positive outcomes of this pandemic, give it climate change(fall in air pollution) or better hygiene also there is drastic surge in social networks like YouTube.
Statistics show that google owned YouTube has seen 20.5% surge in subscribers where 44% users are female and 56% are male. These video platforms have a steep increase in content consumption and average time spent by the user to be over four hours per day.
During this period, people wanted to ‘learn’ and also ‘teach’ kids new things and for that YouTube has become sole video platform of ‘Watch and Learn'. Watch to learn or Teach if you’ve learned.
Prior to Covid period ,people were busy in 9-5 routine giving less time and not taking proper care of themselves. Now many are working from home and have enough time for their physical and mental health, therefore using YouTube platform for beauty, fitness and motivational content. Also Parents are using this platform to guide and entertain their children like watching videos of gaming. And often, they’re learning something new themselves. While tutorials on simple tasks, cooking and HOW-TO videos have always been popular on YouTube. Videos of working from home for alternative ways to generate income are quite popular and watched by many as unemployment rate has increased during this pandemic .
Many are getting inspired from one another and also increasing their revenue by working from home. Especially unemployed women in their mid 40’s are enthusiastic to explore their skills. Elders engaging through social media platforms also helps them to see things in different perspective rather than blindly believing in societal norms.
