Hi guys, I'm back after a long time. I just finished my final year final examinations of my under graduation and this blog is a reflection of what I and my friends went through in the past month. So let's get into it.
Covid-19 has affected every person's life in various forms and students are the prior victims in the end though they enjoyed at the beginning of lockdown. Covid resulted in online classes, these web classes are less than 20% effective than offline classes. The importance of the college atmosphere and inter-relationship between students and professors for the development of student's confidence is very well noticed.
We have been writing several exams for a long time, being medical students, we get habituated to several competitive examinations and stress handling is like a game for us but due to covid everything became 5 times more stressful.
The first reason is ineffective online classes, I don't blame our professors because the fault was with us who ignored their lectures to great extent. The indirect reason for this is the disturbing atmosphere in houses which has lots and lots of diverting things. Online exams are not at all effective because the exam hall experience is completely different.
The second reason is lack of the habituation of writing stuff on papers out from the memory. The results we get helps us to analyze at what stage we are at. This analysis is a great advantage for final exams where we will not repeat the mistakes we did in mids-exams.
The third reason is the lack of practical exposure. Mainly for medical students, we learn 5 times more in hospital postings than reading books. Every student of every profession also agrees with this.
The fourth reason is the lack of support from lecturers which is present only through offline classes. In fact, this time we don't even know the faces of our professors as they joined during the covid time and we didn't get chance to meet them and our previous professors has moved to other colleges who are not in a position to help us.
The fifth reason is there was no clarity regarding the exams schedule and there was only a few days prior intimation of exams by the university and lack of days for preparation even mentally.
On top of this fear of covid as cases were increasing day today in our country.
Though the above reasons persisted, we being final year students took charge of our own studies and started preparing for exams 3 months priorly but it took so many days just to analyze what the syllabus was. In-home it's tough to manage with our timings of study with the household needs. If our parents are strong and understanding, no one can stop us from studying.
The day before our first examinations, everyone was more worried about whether our brain would work during the exam or get blank like a white paper as we are going to enter the examination hall after ages. Our confidence level on that day was in the negative values but god's grace everything went better than we thought.
Our exams last for about 20 days (alternative days of exams) which led us to strain too badly. I bet each and every one of our batch either cried or felt depressed during these days. I'm sure that I must have lost at least 2Kgs of weight for the first 10 days of that mental stress.
In the next blog, I will address the things we did to overcome such great stress :)
