A 12-year-old girl's babysitter goes on a date with serial killer Patrick Bateman in 1993. Mr. Bateman killed the babysitter and has begun dissecting her. Then the young girl murders Bateman with an ice pick. After six years, Rachael Newman, the young child, is now a college student, studying criminology under Professor Robert Starkman, a former FBI agent and one of the most renowned hunters of all serial killers the FBI has ever produced, at a university in Washington. According to rumors, he began teaching as a career following the mysterious death of Patrick Bateman. He displays an official application for a teacher's assistant position for the upcoming school year. Rachael desires to work for the FBI and is desperate to land Starkman's coveted Teaching Assistant position, which would guarantee her admission to the Quantico, Virginia, FBI training facility.

Robert invites his students to the party being thrown at the Dean’s Mansion and uses the occasion to send Elizabeth McGuire on her way to better things. Elizabeth McGuire, who has applied early and been accepted by Quantico, is Robert's current teaching assistant. Racheal believes that because of her higher GPA, she is the frontrunner to succeed in the position. Besides the GPA, Racheal also has several competitors, But having a lower GPA means Brian Leads comes from an affluent family, which will help him open many doors. Racheal is convinced that there won’t be reconciliation between Robert and Casandra Blaire, who has been dating him since the start of the semester. Keith Lawson, the person with the highest GPA among the three, is the most significant threat. But Racheal must lose the round for Keith to take the win, which never occurs. She, therefore, thinks she will be the one to take the job. Once the class is done, Racheal observes them as they try to conceal the fact that Robert and Blaire met together, and he gives Blaire jewelry.

As Racheal goes to Gertrude's office to submit her application for the TA position, she sees Brain arguing with Gertrude about the same thing. Because of his poor GPA, she rejects his application. He yells at her after becoming frustrated and exits the room. Gertrude rudely rejects Rachael's application for the teaching assistant post because she is a freshman. Rachael follows Gertrude Fleck home and beats her to death. Surprisingly, Brian visits Racheal and invites her to go on a date with him. Brian gives her a chance to make money off of that through his business. As an alternative, he demands the TA position. Rachael, who is driven to succeed, starts by drugging him and alluring him while feigning interest in a sexual rendezvous before carrying out her plan to kill Brian. She murders him and buries his body.

Rachael decides to see Dr. Eric Daniels, the school psychiatrist. She meets him when she is on a killing spree. If she could be anyone else in the world but herself, who would it be? asked Dr. Eric Daniels. She responds, "I'll be Miss. Elizabeth McGuire, Prof. Starkman's current teaching assistant, who is next in line to travel to Quantico." She also adds that Quantico is her destined career, and because she's so obstinate, she thinks failure is not an option and won't be taken into consideration. Daniels tries to warn Starkman after realizing Rachael is a typical psychopath who is smitten with him while keeping Rachael's identity hidden for patient confidentiality reasons. Rachael then goes on to kill any of her competitors who constitute a threat to her success.

Mr.Starkman believes, in error, that Cassandra Blaire, with whom he is having an extramarital affair, is the student who is fixated on him. Racheal chooses to attend the party for behavioral sciences at the dean's residence. When she meets Cassandra, she learns that Starkman has already selected her, and she will be the one being assessed for the TA position. Rachael decides to murder Cassandra as well, faking her suicide when she learns that her relationship with Professor Starkman is going to land her a job as a teaching assistant.

Eric's office is visited by her again without an appointment. She requests that he refrain from being overly dramatic, as she says that she came back to admit that she won't be there next week. Eric gets thrilled as she makes a shout-out about his mother and divorced wife. She is told to stop being that by him. She also compares him and his life to that of notorious serial killer EdGein because both include taking care of a sick mother while leading a lonely existence devoid of romantic relationships.

The following day, Mr. Starkman brings up the question of what kind of murderer Ted Bundy was. Lawson argues that the murderer is thought to be a calculated and organized assassin. Mr. Startkman gives her a chance to make a point in a discussion, and she demonstrates that he is an organized and off-the-rail lunatic killer. Finally, Mr. Starkman confirms that she provided the correct answer. Keith Lawson was a bookworm. While Keith Lawson was studying late one night in the university library, Racheal observed him from behind, admired his sketches, referred to them as a waste of an exceptional mind, and then murdered him as part of her plan.

The professor enters Cassandra's room, where he discovers her dead with a note claiming that he was the cause of her suicide. It threatens him and urges him to get rid of all the remnants of him that are still in space. Professor Starkman phones Daniels to inform him that "she is dead." Daniels assumes Rachael is the victim because he doesn't mention her by name. Professor Starkman leaves the institution inconsolably, which enrages the fixated Rachel. The next day, Miss Elizabeth McGuire informs the students that there won't be a TA post for the following academic year.

One evening, Rachael finds a drunk Starkman at his office who is affected by booze and Valium and makes an effort to seduce him. Starkman notices that she is donning a dress and jewelry that he had previously given to Cassandra. By Revealing the truth, Rachael Makes Mr. Starkman unstable and impacts him, making him die by falling out the window. Rachael kills a security guard and a janitor as she departs because they saw Starkman get killed.

Unfortunately, a police officer caught her when she put Mr. Starkman’s body in a car to dispose of it, and she ended up killing him as well. When Eric Daniels calls Mr. Starkman, the call is not answered, and a voicemail is left asking him to ping back. He hears that Rachael Newman has scheduled a meeting for 3:00 p.m. Rachael's parents pay her a surprise visit at her dorm on the last day of classes before spring break. She rushes them outside, promising to meet them for supper later that evening. In the subsequent scene, Eric repeatedly pings Mr. Starkman, eventually leaving him a message inquiring as to whether Rachel is still alive or dead because she had scheduled an appointment at his office. Eric is also waiting until 4:00 p.m., but Racheal doesn't show up for the appointment, which also makes him somewhat relieved.

In the evening, Racheal had dinner with her parents at the hotel. Eric and his mother ended up having supper in the same hotel. Eric is electrified when Rachael meets him and his mother. Eric checks on Starkman when he is missing. Eric decides to give a complaint about Rachael to the police about Starkman's disappearance. Authorities tell them that in the case of the missing young girl, Racheal, a similar incident has occurred before, but when we went looking for the girl, she was there. It was a false alarm from her friend.

She kills the real Rachael Newman at the start of the semester and takes on her identity, hiding the real Rachael's body in a garment bag in her dorm closet. It is then revealed that she is not Rachael Newman.

She is getting ready to load Racheal's and Starkman's bodies into the car to dispose of them. Eric then approaches Rachael while carrying a police briefcase. Luckily, they spotted her car on the road, and the policeman fired his rifle. After slowing down, she stops a half-mile away, close to the sign for Old Mill Bend, and fakes them stopping her car. In a car chase with Daniel and two police officers, Rachel blows up her vehicle after driving off a cliff. She is currently thought to be dead by both the police who were present and the media.

Two years later, Dr. Daniels is presenting the case history of Rachel's mind and how he published a book. Rachael is there as he glances up from talking to a student; she implies that she killed Starkman's last assistant, Elizabeth McGuire, and used her name to enroll in the Quantico FBI Academy. Rachael hasn't died after all.

She tells Dr. Daniels because she feels it would be pointless to carry out the ideal crime if no one knew about it, and she is confident he won't tell anyone because doing so would undermine the credibility of his best-selling book, in which he claimed to fully comprehend her and see her burn to death in the burning car. The actual Rachael, whose decomposing body had been stashed in the murderer's dorm closet, was the body that was in the automobile. Rachael joined the Bureau in her sophomore year, making her the youngest agent ever, according to information provided by another student. Dr. Daniels is upset by what he has learned as Rachel leaves his class.
