Aren't you surprised to know that a person's long-term health implications starts from the mother's womb. It is so true that a mother's health before and after pregnancy can highly impact on the growing baby and it's future. After conception, the rapidly growing fetus needs and leeches a lot of nutrients from the maternal body. When there is no adequate or enough nutrient supply then there will be a disturbance in the growth of the fetus. This is why a pregnant women should concentrate on improving her health and metabolism before conception because her underlying health problem could be passed on to the future generation which is far more a concerning problem.

Unhealthy pregnancy not only affects the growth of the child but also the brain growth and brain developmental problems along with long-term cognitive functions and achievements, the immune functions, risk of allergies, auto-immune diseases, bone health, neural tube defects or NTD's and much more.

Though it is a wonderful journey for the mother and baby, a women has to experience a lot of painful physical and mental changes. A lot of hormonal, physical and mental changes happens to the mother till the delivery of the baby. After delivery everything goes back to normal pre-pregnancy state gradually. So it is very important to consider about nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices of a pregnant woman and it should be implemented as soon as possible before conception. A healthy BMI and sufficient folate status is also equally important in providing the unborn child with good nutrition which is a best start as possible.

Many people are unaware that an unhealthy body mass index or BMI, during pregnancy can put bothe the mother and the unborn child at a greater risk of increased complications like gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, post-partum hemorrhage, baby is likely to be still-born, congenial malformations that result from a failure of a neural tube, over weight baby which is known as macrosomia, likely to be end up in ceasarean, and chances of baby facing post-partum problems. These problems can be avoided only by taking a good healthy diet during the pre-conception period.

The increased needs in early pregnancy are very difficult to meet with the dietary intake alone so the most wide-spread strategy used is a multi-vitamin supplement along with a good nutritional diet.

In this way, a women can be encouraged to develop a long-term healthy lifestyle choices which support a healthy mother, a healthy pregnancy and a healthy children of future.

It is our responsibility to provide advice to a pregnant women or a women who intend to become pregnant soon and to the pregnant women's family about the importance of the nutritional valued dietary intake playing an important role in the maternal and it's impact on the future upcoming generations.
