Have you heard that marriage is the beautiful union of two souls? In fact, I have heard this ever since I reached my adolescence. Well, marriage is no piece of cake and you need to be loyal, dedicated, and loving to your partner and it is applicable to both sides. The ‘dowry prohibition act of 1961’ clearly states that those giving or taking dowry would be penalized. But does this really stop the dowry system in India?
I woke up today morning hearing the suicide of a young beautiful girl who was married off recently. She committed suicide as she was not able to face the physical, emotional, and verbal abuses she faced from her husband in the name of dowry. Don't you think it's shameful for the whole nation? The Country with several laws to protect the rights of women lack to ensure the right to live.
The girl was married to a man, a government official which was attractive and who was good-looking. The girl did not even complete her education but she agreed to the decent alliance that came for her. She started off with a lot of expectations she was given one acre of land, a car worth 11 lakh, and a lot of gold. The man wasn't satisfied with the car and he started abusing the girl. He even hit her brother once and then she was safe in her house.
She went for her exam from her house and her husband picked her from the college and he resolved the issues. But, she got continuously abused she shared it with her friends but she was not able to share it with her family because she left the house and gave him a second chance without letting the family know. The abuse resulted in her suicide and the girl's family accuses her husband of the murder.
Since morning I saw the news on television and she is of my age. I couldn't spend the day without thinking about her and the fate of the family. The husband's family demanded the dowry but they were way too long to call off the marriage. But, that was enough at least she would have lived a life without him. However, there are no options left now but the whole media discusses the ill fate of the family and the girl.
Yes, it is important to discuss such issues and take proper actions against them. This incident draws our attention to certain things:
I binge-watched this news the whole day on different news channels and now before bed, I heard another news of abuse that lead to the suicide of another young girl. Having a government job doesn't make a man worth he should respect your daughter. The rest will fall in place.
Let this not happen to any other women.
