Hello everyone! In this blog is about Taj mahal…..

Taj means 'the beautiful' and mahal is 'paintings'. So therefore, this title should say something like 'The Beautiful Taj paintings..

Taj Mahal is located in Agra city of India. This place is called Taj Mahal due to its architecture that resembles the shape of mausoleum. Taj Mahal was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. She died after giving birth to their 16th child, who later became Emperor Jahangir. It took 20 years to build this magnificent structure at a cost of around 22 crores of rupees (today's equivalent would be worth 1.5 billion dollars). Today, Taj Mahal attracts over 7 million tourists from various parts of world including USA, UK, France, Japan, Russia and other countries.

The name Taj Mahal means 'Crown Jewel'. It is considered as one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

It has been constructed using marble taken from different places of Rajasthan. Many believe the white marble used in constructing the tomb comes from Mount Abu near Jaisalmer. Other sources claim the marble came from Ratlam, Tonk, Gwalior, Bundi, Chittaurgarh and Siwana in Madhya Pradesh. However, it is believed that the main source of white marbles used here are from Makrana in Rajasthan. Its architectural style is based on Persian and Islamic styles.

The construction of Taji Mahal includes many interesting features like four minarets with a total height of 70 meters, 24-karat gold leafed dome, double arched gateway, intricate stonework on walls and many others. There are three kinds of stones which have been used in making this beautiful monument. These include red sandstone, green serpentine stone and black slate.

Taj Mahal consists of two identical terraces, with each containing four arches. There are four entrances in the form of gateways placed symmetrically on the top level. They have been designed in a way that they can be opened only from inside. So people visiting this place cannot see what lies behind these gates.

There are many interesting facts associated with the construction of this building. According to historians, the design of the building was done by order of Shah Jehan. He wanted to create a monumental tomb for himself which could become a symbol of love and eternal remembrance for his queen.

Taj Mahal is not just a beautiful monument built by Mughals. It was constructed back then at a time when they knew nothing about chemistry. They used basic ingredients like lime stone (calcium carbonate), gypsum (calcium sulfate dehydrate) and sand (silica). Today, we know that these materials are the best choices to build this monument. But back then, no one knew this.

By experimenting with different combinations of these minerals, they finally created a material that has lasted over hundreds of years. This material is white in color and can be bought from TajMahal’s official website. The reason behind Taj Mahal’s durability is the fact that both calcium and silica are common elements in nature. Calcium contains silicon and oxygen while silica consists of silicon, oxygen, and hydrogen. These two elements form an extremely strong chemical bond. And since Taj Mahal was built back then, it contained high concentrations of these elements.

Today, Taj Mahal has been destroyed twice due to natural calamities. In 1788, there was a massive earthquake and the building collapsed. Later in 1930, the British government removed 20 tons of stones from Taj Mahal to make cement blocks.
