Maybe this was one of the worst deaths a general can die. He was out of line, in every way there was, and he knew it. He shouldn't have been there. He shouldn't have been there with that person, he knew it. It should have been a safer place, but he still got away with it.

He must have felt happy at the minute, until suddenly a deep thump inside his chest betrayed him. Nobody knows what happened. There were no survivors for evidence. Medics state their own thoughts, blood clots, oxygen starvation, occluded blood vessels and whatnot. It means nothing to us, you know, you just drop dead, just like that. Kramer certainly did. He was drop-dead, dead with no soul and all the secrets hidden inside him.

I was sitting alone in my borrowed office and sipping my precious black coffee and staring at my wristwatch, even though it didn't work. The cells had stopped working minutes before the New Year countdown began. I stood up and faced the small window embedded in the wall behind my desk. I opened the curtains and the window glass to let some fresh air in. I took a deep breath and leaned against the window and stared outside, sipping my coffee and relaxing.

Soon the view was interrupted by a bunch of fireworks exploding in the sky, making a lot of noise. The fireworks made a ‘Happy New Year!!' pattern in the dark blue sky surrounded by yellow, blue, pink, red colors. I was just blankly staring at the sky. No emotions. 2000 to 2001, Nothing to obsess about right?

It lost me in my thoughts when the landline phone which was on my desk rang. It only rings when it's urgent work or some official work. “A work call at The New Year? Seem's about right.” I picked up the phone and answered.

 “Hello?”

“I need to talk to the military police officer on duty, immediately!”

“you are talking to him, speak up."

“We found one of yours's dead. Drop-dead."
