Hello everyone, Among the wonders of the world, only one wonder has a unique distinction. The special thing is that the eyes can see the miracle even if seen from the sky. The Great Wall of China is the only wonder of the world that has the distinction of being spread over 7500 kilometers like a line drawn by nature on a Chinese map. After about two thousand years, we are going to know about the great emperor of the Chinese nation who was responsible for the formation of that long wall that still amazes us. Shi Huangdi is the name of the king who gave the world not only the Great Wall of China but also the Chinese mainland which was scattered into many small kingdoms and unified China.
If we want to fully understand the importance of King Shi Huangdi in world history, we must first understand the historical background of China. Shi Huangdi was born in China in 259 BC. About a thousand years before his birth, China was ruled by the Zhao kings. Over the course of a thousand years, the rule of those kings weakened little by little and China was scattered into many small kingdoms. The petty kings often fought among themselves. Because of that, the whereabouts of some small kingdoms were lost. The Qin government proved to be the most powerful of all the small kingdoms. Shi Huangdi, also known as Zheng, was born into that royal dynasty.
Shi Huangdi ascended the throne at the age of thirteen. But it was only at the age of 21 that the full power of the government came into his hands. Prince Cheng, who was a great scholar, selected competent generals and increased his army strength. He invaded the remaining small kingdoms which were already weak and started conquering them one by one. The last small kingdom of China was taken over by him in 221 BC and the whole of China came under his rule. He was only 38 years old then. Shi Huangdi, meaning 'First Emperor', was the name he gave himself at the time. Once all of China came under his rule, he immediately began implementing many drastic changes and reforms.
Realizing that disunity was the cause of China's fragmentation, he completely abolished the feudal system of government. He divided China into a total of 36 states and appointed a governor for each state. Not only that, he also abolished the system of successive governors belonging to the same lineage. He changed them from state to state every few years to prevent governors from abusing power and building too much influence. He appointed a governor and a military leader for each state. All were under the direct rule of the king.
