Book Review: Never Let Me Go

Frighteningly strange things happen at Hailsham, a boarding school alienated from the rest of England, where students are kept away from all the world thriving beyond them. On the surface, their realities seem just as any other human being like you and I. But sooner than you realize, the story unfolds to reveal unsettling truths some well rumoured, some not - ensuring that you stay hooked to whatever it is to come next, or that which has been already.

Never Let Me Go pertains to Kathy's nostalgic narration, now a 31 year old retiring carer, as she remembers her time at Hailsham from an age as tender as 13, and the dark discoveries she and her friends had made together. They keep questioning the purpose of their existence, putting together clues from everything little they come to learn, trying to run into the truth they've been so longingly searching for. I won't ruin it for you with too much information, but I can promise that this book will definitely keep you by the edge of your seat, while you breeze through its heartbreaking prose.

I loved the parts where they take onto crazy adventures, and talk about art, and especially the portion when you find the reason behind the book's title. I suspect that scene is going to be with me for a long, long time. Several genres melt into one another here, from Dystopia to Science Fiction and even Horror, arguably, whereas at its most vulnerable core, it remains a poignant human story.

The characters grow in their friendship and solitude alike, together and further apart, leading up to places of big reveals, as you wonder what of it all is even possible, and what isn't. That word's in italics because it's a reference from the book itself, and this is to push you to read it whenever you get the chance.

// This is my fourth Booker book in a row and dare I admit, I have really impressed myself LOL. Anyway, I'm confused about how to end this, so let me leave you with a question : What if someday, you woke up and realized that you weren't real? That your body was created only to be given up for the sake of others? That you had no soul? What if, then?

Hope you'll develop interest in this book after reading this review. Thank you for reading and supporting. Have a nice day ahead!
