In this blog we will get to know about mosquito whose average kill count is 1,000,000 people per year. They have killed more humans than a war. Mosquitoes are well known for spreading diseases and itchy bites. The word mosquito came from the spanish word little fly.

• Mosquitoes are everwhere except Antarctica.
• There are 3500 species of mosquitoes. But only few of them feed on humans. They can smell human breathe.

• Mosquitoes can fly upto 1-3 kilometres per hour
• Mosquitoes pee on you when they bite. But they dont have teeth.

• They increase the activity of biting during the full moon.
• They are more attracted towards smelly feet. Sweat increases the chance of getting more bitten by them.

• The bumps due to mosquito bite are caused by their saliva. The enzymes and proteins in the saliva causes an itch.
• Their wings beat for 300-600 times per second.

• Mosquitoes are attracted to certain blood types. Mostly they prefer to bite type O humans. So they find blood group O as tasty compared to others.
• Researchers have discoverd a 45million year old fossil of a mosquito in mountain range of USA.

• Mosquitoes do not bite with their teeth instead they 45 razor sharp edges on their proboscis. They use these sharp edges to pierce through the layers of the skin.
• Mosquitoes can detect carbon dioxide released in breathe by humans. They are more attracted to carbon dioxide and lactic acid.

• Mosquitoes prefer larger persons and pregnant women to bite because they release more carbon dioxide and have higher body temperatures. So mosquitoes can detects them easily.
• They can detect carbon dioxide from 75 feet away.

• They dont fly very high and their eye sight is very bad. They can only see bright colours.
• Male mosquitoes do not bite. They only feed on the nectar of plants.
• One mosquito can carry more than one disease.

• They weigh about 2.5milligrams and hates wind.
• Mosquitoes have a very short life span from 4 days to one month. They have only two things in their mind i.e feed and mate. They can mate while flying.

• Even though mosquitoes are spreading many diseases still they are important in our food chain.
• A female mosquito can lay eggs upto 300. In its  life it produces 3000 offsprings. It can consume twice their body weight of blood.

• Male mosquito can detect female mosquito by the sound of their wings.
