The Waste We Generated In Pandemic

hello, my dear bloggers, hope you all are doing great and healthy. Still, there are some cases of the third wave of corona , so it is better to take precautions and proper care. I saw many people using double masks, sanitizers, and taking utmost precautions, today I am gonna share how our precautions affected the environment.

56 thousand tonnes, the figure is quite large but to the reality, this is the quantity of biomedical waste we produced itself in a pandemic. Though our ministry has developed a covid BMW App for disposal of these biodegradable wastes, the amount of waste produced and disposal rate is not even reaching the minimum rate. The daily results of the production of wastes are really shocking, it used to be 3 kg per patient in June 2020 and reduced to an amount of 1.2 per kg this year, but it is unmatchable to the wastes produced on normal days.

As the second wave hit us really hard, this quantity increased on an average 250 tonnes of waste is produced every day in India as per Central Pollution Control Board records. The waste mainly includes disposable masks, sanitizers, PPE Kits along with other regular medical waste. The government is only providing disposable facilities to the waste produced by the hospitals but what about the disposable masks used by people. In most of the towns, this is generally mixed with municipal waste, which is causing them an extra burden for their disposal, and in most cases, these are not even disposed of.

Though pandemics showed a decrease in air pollution, generation of bio-degradable rate covered the decreased rate, and as we are not even sure of when this pandemic will end? , masks became a part of our body. The government from their side is trying to tie up with private units for the disposal of bio-degradable waste and from our end also we must take some precautions for this one, using a cloth mask can reduce waste up to 5 times and these are also proven effective.

Oceans already have great reserves of this plastic waste and this bio-degradable waste is dangerous than any plastic waste. This waste can pollute water, kill organisms and other deadly diseases. Taking personal health care is essential but don't take more care than required, because that will reduce your immunity.
