Since its introduction in England in the sixteenth century, cricket has captured the hearts of people all around the world, including those in Australia and New Zealand. Cricket is the way of life for people in the subcontinent (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh), and it is regarded as a distinct religion by all. We even give players titles since it's so popular—Sachin Tendulkar is referred to as the "God of Cricket"! Other regions, such as the West Indies, are proud of it because of their past victories in the ODI Cricket World Cups in 1975 and 1979!
The History of Cricket:
Cricket is a popular sport because it requires a certain skill set, such as physical fitness as well as strategic thinking, self-control, and precision.

The Weald, a heavily forested region of England, is thought to be the game's original home during the Saxon or Norman eras. It's been proposed that it originated from bowls, with the addition of a player attempting to stop the ball from reaching its goal with a stick or wooden board. 

The fence to a sheep enclosure or a tree stump might have been the target. In Anglo-Norman French, "wicket" refers to a little door or screen; nevertheless, it can also refer to the croquet hoops. 
The rivalry amongst youngsters to see who could smash a ball the farthest using a wooden stick gave rise to the sport in the sixteenth century. 

It became well-liked by the English gentry and expanded throughout the country; the game was first known to be played outside of the country in 1676.

 Since its founding in 1787, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) at The Lord's Cricket Ground has been responsible for maintaining all of the game's regulations. Playing organized matches, village teams gave way to county teams during the course of the eighteenth century. In 1844, the St. George's Cricket Club in New York hosted the first-ever international cricket match between the USA and Canada.

Just 10% of the sport's history is comprised in its most prosperous period. When the first Twenty20 match was played in 2003, cricket was never played the same way again. 

T20 is the shortest and fastest format; purists were initially critical of it. But it offers unparalleled entertainment to watchers, and leagues like the IPL, BBL, and PSL have helped make T20 popular and attract millions of fans worldwide.
