Welcome or welcome back my dear bloggers to my daily blogs. I hope you all are in good health and are having a blast of a day.๐๐
Lets get right in to todays topic, The Lucifer Effect theory. So this theory refers to the extreme transformation of human character in which ordinary people, including GOOD ones, engage in evil deeds for a short or a long time. Although it is not in the nature of ordinary people so intentionally seek out victims and hurt them, our history, certain experts and some simulation experiments suggests that even the good ones are indeed capable of evil.
Philip Zambardo, according to THE STANDARD PRISON EXPERIMENT, identified that the main factor behind such change in human character is finally โdehumanizingโ the group of people, i.e. the victims.
The process of dehumanizing involve in taking away the humanity of the victims such that they are viewed as people with animalistic status. This cna happen for certain reasons. Additionally it can also be said that they can be made to happen, which is an equal concern.
Below are some of the reasons why good may turn into evil:
Humans tend to match their characters as per their โprinciplesโ of their admired group to have a sense of security of being with the group. To match the principles, they are willing to practice anything even falsehood and evil. And it is valid because no one would desire to be an odd one of the group.
Every person with a darker skin colour is called a โ black manโ and those with lighter skin color is called โwhite manโ, regardless of the fact that they both are โmanโ. Theya re also seen as the separate communities of the nation. Additionally, people of certain races and belief systems are portrayed as evil doers by people of other races and beliefs.
In North Korea, schools use study materials to portray people of other nations in a negative light. Such interracial and interfaith negative portraits exists till date. It clearly suggests that conventions like race, body color, and belief system are seen as a reason to drive evil thoughts and actions.
Some other significant reasons includes blindly following the authority, use of dehumanizing terms and the effect of a negative environment.
Unfortunately, everyone is vulnerable to this Lucifer Effect. But fortunately it can be counteracted.
