Welcome or welcome back my dear bloggers. I hope you all are in a good health and are having a blast of a day.

Today's topic will be a bit different. We will be discussing about the building that is shaped in the form of a pentagon, The Pentagon building. It is the headquarters of the US department of defense. It is also one of the worlds largest office buildings. It has about 3 times the floor space of the empire state building of New York.

In 1941, just before the entry of US in the 2nd world war, U.S decided to construct a building which gathered all defence personel. At that time the number of workforce was over 25,000 people, so obviously this building would have to be huge. The idea wasnt to build to provide office to 25,000 people, but to have a maximum capacity of 40,000 and at the same time keeping the building under 6 stories high.

The construction was super fast for this masterpiece. The building was standing completed on January 1943, only 16 months after the start of construction. The ideal time for constructing this kind of large scale building takes up to 4 years.

The whole building as one might look like a big block but the fact is that the pentagon is built as five pentagonal rings.

Exactly 60 years after the construction, the september 11th attacks occured, in which the american airlines flight 77 crashed into the building. The flight penetrated 3 of the 5 pentagonal rings killing of 184 people. Luckily, the site of destruction was going under renovation or else the death toll would exceed even 10,000. After the attacks, a massive project initiated with the task of rebuilding the damaged pentagonal sides. The name of the project was given as THE PHOENIX, with reference to the mythological phoenix bird which always rises from the ashes.

Also the pentagon memorial construction started. The memorial contains 184 benches, one for each victim of the attack, arranged in the order of the age of the victims.

Even though the building was constructed during the early years of world war 2, it is still considered as one of the most efficient office buildings of the world. A look from inside the pentagon might be really tough if you haven't booked the time in advance , but i would recommend  a visit on the inside.
