Butterflies (Rhopalocera) are insects with noticeable, fluttering flying patterns and big, frequently brilliantly coloured wings. The superfamilies Hedyloidea (moth-butterflies in the Americas) and Papilionoidea make up the group. Fossils of butterflies are from the Paleocene, or roughly 56 million years ago.

Life  cycle  of  Butterfly:

Butterflies have a four-stage life cycle because, like the majority of insects, they completely transform. On the food plant that their offspring, known as caterpillars, would feed on, wingless adults deposit their eggs. The caterpillars develop, sometimes extremely quickly, before pupating in a chrysalis once they are completely grown. The adult insect climbs out of the pupal skin after the metamorphosis is over, and once its wings have dried and grown, it takes flight. Some butterflies, particularly in the tropics, have multiple generations every year, while others only have one. A few butterflies that live in frigid climates may take several years to complete their life cycle.

Activities  of  Butterfly:

Butterflies are frequently polymorphic, and many species use aposematism, camouflage, and mimicry to thwart predators.[1] Some migrate over great distances, such as the monarch and the painted lady. Many butterflies are preyed upon by other organisms or are parasitized by them, including wasps, protozoans, flies, and other invertebrates. Some species are pests because they can harm domestic trees or crops in their larval phases, while other species act as pollination agents for specific plants. Some butterflies' larvae—such as harvesters—consume dangerous insects, while others coexist with ants as mutualists. Some are ant predators. In both the artistic and literary arts, butterflies are a common motif across cultures. Butterflies, according to the Smithsonian Institution, "are undoubtedly one of the most appealing creatures in nature.

Butterflies are intelligent animals. Numerous activities can be used to describe their daily life. Many of the following activities may involve butterflies, if you pay close attention. It may take some detective effort to watch some behaviours, such hybernation. To see other behaviours like sunbathing, puddling, or migrating, you must be in the right location at the right time. Keep a record of your activities and count how many distinct butterflies you can see participating in each one. You might be able to get some tips about where (or on what plants) some of these activities are likely to take place from the material on the individual butterfly pages.

Puddling  :

When it's too hot, butterflies may seek out shade or cool places like puddles. Some species will congregate around small mud puddles or moist sand patches to drink the water's mineral-rich contents. The salts and nutrients in the puddles are thought to be necessary for successful mating as there are typically more males than females there.
