Good morning 🌞

In today's blog I'm going to discuss about PCOS. Poly cystic ovarian syndrome, which very common in nowadays. PCOS is a common disorder suffered by females. Unhealthy life style, mental and physical stress, genetic etc can be the reason for this. 

Actually people are not completely aware of it. So they start believing in myths and start unhealthy ways to cure PCOS.

Here are some common myths and things to know about PCOS.

Pregnancy

It's a common myth that a women with PCOS can never get pregnant. It's absolutely wrong. You may face some difficulty in fertilization due to hormonal imbalance and the ovary ability to release eggs. But it doesn't always result in infertility.

Abnormal hair growth

Unwanted hair growth is a symptom of PCOS. We can see excess hair growth in chin, face and other parts of the body. This is due to the increased level of androgens in the body. But the symptoms may vary from women.

Menstruation

Irregular periods can occur in multiple reasons like uterine fibroids, diet, thyroid, over excersising , dieting etc. Irregular menstruation Is one of the symptom of PCOS but not always. It can be of any reason.

Treatment

We can go for different types of treatment like ayurveda, homeo, allopathy etc. In allopathy the doctor Start with birth control pills. This tablet can only relieve the symptoms. They can't completely cure PCOS. It can only be cure by taking targeted medication along with healthy diet, weight management and other life style changes.

Acne 

PCOS can cause severe acne breakouts and it is tough to manage. Because of this kind of symptoms a dermatologist can identify PCOS before the gynecologist. 

This can be cured by consulting a dermatologist. They first start with topical medication to work towards reducing bacterial growth. Accompanied by oral medication based on derivatives of vitamin A which control sebum production. 

In severe condition we can go for in clinic procedure like chemical peeling which are really effective.

Other common symptoms are

Patterned balding, dark patches of skin in folds of your body, abnormal weight gain etc

This can be controlled by

Reduce weight, healthy and balanced diet, excersise, adequate sleep, reduce stress levels.

In adding to this take medication to manage the hormones.

When PCOS affect your skin and hair it's better to consult a dermatologist, don't go for home remedies in such situations. Because it can worsen the situation.
