The Me Before You novel, written by Jojo Moyes was adapted into a film in 2016. Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin played the lead roles in the movie. The adaptation stays fairly true to the book, capturing the emotional depth of the characters and their evolving relationship.

Me Before You" tells the poignant and emotionally charged story of Louisa "Lou" Clark and Will Traynor, two individuals whose lives intertwine in unexpected ways.

Louisa Clark is a cheerful, quirky young woman living in a small town. She works various odd jobs to help support her family, but her life lacks direction and ambition. After losing her job at a café, Louisa takes a position as a caregiver for Will Traynor, a once-successful businessman who was left paralyzed from the neck down after a motorcycle accident.

Will, now confined to a wheelchair, is bitter and resentful, struggling with the loss of his former, adventurous life. He views his current existence as limited and devoid of joy, and he is contemplating ending his life through assisted suicide at Dignitas, a clinic in Switzerland. His parents hire Louisa in the hope that her upbeat personality will lift Will's spirits and possibly change his mind.

At first, Will is cold and dismissive towards Louisa, but as time passes, the two form a deep bond. Louisa is determined to show Will that life is still worth living, and she plans various outings and activities to give him a sense of adventure again. Along the way, Louisa herself begins to grow, gaining confidence and discovering new possibilities for her future.

As their relationship deepens, Louisa falls in love with Will, and she believes that their love could be enough to change his outlook on life. However, Will remains firm in his decision to end his life, explaining that he cannot live in a body that is no longer his own, despite his feelings for Louisa.

In the end, Will goes through with his plan, traveling to Switzerland with Louisa and his family by his side. After his death, Louisa is left heartbroken but is also inspired by Will’s final gift to her — financial support for her to pursue her dreams and live a fuller life.

The story explores themes of love, sacrifice, autonomy, and the right to make choices about one's life and death. It raises ethical questions about quality of life and the impact of disability, while also emphasizing the importance of living life to the fullest.
