‘Astronomers are constantly researching in search of a new Earth. One of the old planets we know is the problem of space, on the way of depletion of natural resources. A 'super' Earth was discovered 36 light- years away from our Earth. The possibility of life is not impossible there.
Scientists at the Space Research Center in the Canary Islands have discovered the planet. A year on Earth is like 365 days, but on that planet it is only two and a half days. Strictly speaking, two days 9 hours 30 min.The planet GJ740( name of the new planet found ) can orbit the Sun at this time.
Why is it called Super Earth? Planets that are twice or 10 times the size than of our Earth are called Super Earths. The mass of this planet is three times than the mass of Earth. Slightly smaller in size than Neptune, the fourth largest in the solar system. Super Earth, though big Super Earth is not only made of clay and stone, it can also be a gas shell.
But is this planet habitable at all? Scientists say that depends on many things. The problem with planets like the GJ740, which is close to the Red Dwarf (dead cold star), is that the habitable zone is too small. The closer the planet is to the star, the more likely it is that the two will rotate at the same speed.For this reason, one side of the planet will always be hot and the other side will be cold. Always day on one side and night on the other. If there is an atmosphere like Earth and Saturn, there may be some solution. The atmosphere can eliminate this extreme temperature difference. Scientists say that if a number of other factors are favorable, there could be a resurgence of life.
The ‘sun’ will of course look much bigger and the plants will look black not green. But people can survive.
GJ 740 is a super Earth exoplanet that orbits a K-type star. Its mass is 2.96 Earths, it takes 2.4 days to complete one orbit of its star, and is 0.029 AU from its star. Its discovery was announced in 2021.
