DODO Is a bird that have been extinct a very long time before. dodo is a flightless bird like penguin. the existence of this bird is found in a island of Mauritius, which is the east of Madagascar in the indian ocean the closest genetic relative of dodo is Rodrigues solitaire, it is also extinct this two birds together formed the Subfamily Raphines , a batch of extinct flightless bird that were a part of the family including pigeon and doves. The closest living relative of the dodo is the Nicobar pigeon
Dodo was 1 metre tall and approximate weight between 10KG to 17KG. The appearance of dodo in life is evidenced only by drawings, paintings from the earlier centuries
Dodo's main habitat is believed to be the woods in the drier coastal areas of the mauritius. The scientists expects that the dodo become flightless because of the possiblity of getting food and the absence of the relative predator on mauritius that' why the dodo is historically potrayed as fat and clumsy
The first mention of dodo that recorded historically was by the sailor from dutch, the the bird was haunted by the sailors and so the habitat was completely destroyed
Dodo was a flightless and a terrestrial bird and there were no predators or any other kind of enemy on Mauritius island ,Therefore the dodo will probably nested on the ground.
Like many other that evolved has a natural enemy, But for dodo there is no natural enemy or predator therefore they are fearless of human. This fearlessness and the inability to fly made the Dodo a easy prey for the sailor so the sailor kill this dodo for large number and store in the ship for food in their travel, this is the reason for the extinction of the bird dodo
The only remaining evidence of dodo was the dried head and the foot, found in Europe
Dodo is the best known extinct animal in the world and its singular appearence led to its use in literature and famous culture as a symbol of an outdated object as in the expression “dead as a dodo” or “to go the way of the dodo”
Dodo is also referred in the mauritius coins and used as a watermark on all mauritius rupee banknotes dodo is also used to promote the protection of endangered species by some environmental organisations all over the world
