Arunraja Kamaraj, who is well-known for his acting, songwriting, and singing, makes his writing-directing debut with "Kanaa," a film that is made by his close buddy Sivakarthikeyan. The multi-talented Arunraja makes a grand entrance, successfully accomplishing the challenging challenge of incorporating a compelling, current message into a fun sports play.
The only child and cricket-loving farmer Murugesan (Sathyaraj), Koushika Murugesan is played by Aishwarya Rajesh. When India loses a game, the young girl witnesses her father sobbing and develops the desire to play cricket for India and win matches to please her father. The remaining portion of the screenplay, which deals with a gender, economic background, and social issue, shows how this village girl overcomes these obstacles to realise her ambition.
Arunraja gives both of these tensions similar weight in the opening scene of his story and frequently uses cross-cutting to move between the two parallel plots, which elegantly come together at the finale to pack a powerful blow. A local cricket match is interrupted early on in the movie after a brawl breaks out between the two sides. The tale of Kausalya, also known as Kausi (Aishwarya Rajesh), and her farmer father Murugesan (Sathyaraj), follows. The latter is so obsessed with cricket that he would rather watch a game than weep at the passing of his father. But when India loses a cricket match, he loses it, and Kausi sees this and decides she wants to play cricket and win matches to make him happy.
Kanaa, like many other sports dramas, relies on dramatisation and its star Aishwarya Rajesh. The usual setup one finds in such a movie is used by director-writer Arunraja Kamaraj: a protagonist who is passionate about the sport, demonstrates the obstacles in her path, and demonstrates how she must strive to accomplish her goal. A motivational tune has been thrown in for good measure. All of it, though, comes out as forced and expected.
Prior to the movie, the actor had bowling training, which is evident in the second part of Kanaa, where the game takes central stage. Aishwarya excels in her confrontation with her mother as well. Until she reaches puberty, she is allowed to play cricket with the guys. Her mother can't contain her rage when she finds out that her adult daughter is toying with guys, one of them is Kousalya's brother. She strikes her daughter with a broomstick as she falls to the ground. One of the best scenes in the movie is perhaps when Kousalya exhibits her wrath at home while still holding back her tears.
The writer's comparison of the daughter and the father was another intriguing aspect of the movie. She, a cricket player, and he, a farmer, both encountered discrimination, but they both made the decision to overcome it. Despite being forced to live on the streets due to mounting debts, actor Sathyaraj portrays the ever-supportive father who shows pride when he watches his daughter succeed.
