Hello everyone! In this blog is about paint materials…

Oil paint:

Oil paints have been around since the ancient times and are still widely being used today. An oil paint consists of pigment suspended in a liquid carrier (oil). These pigments are often derived from natural substances like mineral deposits, plants or animals. Oils used in oil painting vary greatly depending on their purpose, application technique, and desired effect. There are several types of oils including watercolor, acrylic, tempera, gouache, and pastel, each with specific purposes and methods of use.

Watercolors:

Water-based paints are the oldest type of paint known to man. Watercolors consist mainly of pigments dispersed in a solution of binder/dispersant plus water. In addition to these three ingredients, a watercolor may also contain varnish, gum arabic, casein, clay, talc, or titanium dioxide to improve its properties. Watercolors are commonly used for landscape painting, figure drawing, and portraiture.

Acrylics:

Acrylics were invented in 1933. They are based on polymers of acrylic acid and derivatives. Acrylics are versatile because they dry fast compared to oil paints, and they can be thinned down further without affecting the drying time. Thinning down or diluting an undiluted acrylic means reducing the amount of solvent (water) present in the paint. Acrylics are popular for oil paintings because they dry clear and opaque, but can be diluted to make thinner washes of color.

Temperas:

Temperas are a group of transparent paint mixtures developed in the early 20th century. Temeras are basically a combination of watercolors and lacquers and are typically used for backgrounds and interiors where the subject matter does not need much detail. Lacquer is a mixture of resin and pigment applied over wet paint layers. When mixed together, the resin hardens the dried layer and creates a very glossy surface finish. Lacquered surfaces are great for fine details, highlights, and intricate designs.

Gouaches:

Gouaches are similar to watercolors except they don't require any oil solvent. Instead they use a gesso base to create a smooth surface finish. Gesso is a ground preparation composed of glue, chalk, or clay pigment and size. Once mixed and spread out, a gesso coat dries to a matte finish. Gouaches are best for quick outlines, sketches, and general background work.

Pastels:

Pastels are colored pencils consisting primarily of graphite, wax, and a binder. Graphite is the active ingredient in pastel sticks and sheets. Wax is added to both stick and sheet forms and serves as a vehicle for holding the pigment in place. Binders hold the pigment particles together. As with other colored pencils, pastels can be sharpened to produce darker colors and blended for softer tones.

Round Top:

Round tops are the most versatile brushes because they can hold a lot of paint without being bulky. They are great for professionals who want to achieve precise strokes and work fast.
