The current food trends have made everyone more and more health conscious and eat only those foods which can benefit the body. We all are concerned about our well - being which has led to a massive change in our food and lifestyle habits too. In fact, 2019 was a year which was like a mini - food movement in itself, health was the top most priority. People made a switch from junkies to healthier foods, vegan diets, intermittent fasting and what not. Every change is good and a change which leads to a healthier lifestyle is absolutely great. But, there are some foods out there which are labeled under the ‘ health category ’ but in real, are not so.
With choosing healthy foods comes a lot of responsibility, one of which would be ‘ always read the food labels carefully. ’ Has it ever happened with you, that the headline in the newspaper or the news channel had been much more startling and over hyped than the actual news piece ? I am sure it has ! There's a similar thing going on for years in the food industry. Sometimes, the packaging of the food has misleading facts which we consumers fall prey to, without knowing the entire story behind it, which is, mentioned in detail under the ‘ food label. ’
Let's know about some foods which might sound healthy, but aren't !
Sweetened yogurt : You might stand in front of the grocery shop wondering which yogurt flavour you should buy ? Don't ! Flavoured yogurts are loaded with artificial sweeteners and no actual fruits making it unhealthy. If you're buying yogurt, always go for the natural, plain and the basic one.
Energy bars : Energy bars are considered to be one of the best pre - workout snacks. True ! But, do you know that the store - bought bars can contain high amounts of corn syrup, added sugar and fats ? A 100 grams energy bar can contain upto 350 calories which doesn't really seem to be the very perfect workout snack ! Hence, if you want to eat an energy - filled snack, you should try and make one at home.
Peanut butter : Peanut butter is considered to be a very ‘ healthy ’ option and also a good snack post any workout session. But, if you dive deep into the cons of it, you will know that peanut butter is high in fats and calories and eating a lot of it can lead to cardiovascular diseases. So, if at all you want to consume it, always eat in moderation.
Brown bread : We all are convinced that white bread is unhealthy for the body. But, do you think brown bread is totally healthy ? The bottom line, no, maybe not. There's a rumour that says that people are trying to use chemicals to colour the bread brown, which maybe even more harmful than the white bread we consume. The better choice could be multigrain bread.
Diet soda : Diet sodas are loaded with artificial sweeteners like sucralose, aspartame and more which are even worse than regular sugar. Studies have also proven that drinking diet soda can lead to obesity, blood sugar problems and high blood sugar levels in the body. If you ever crave for a soda next time, buy the regular one, it's less harmful than the ‘ diet ’ ones.
Half of your problems won't exist if you took some time to read the food labels carefully and take an effort to know your food well. A lot of similar foods are ‘ not so healthy ‘ but claim to be. So, the next time someone says, you should try the ’ fat - free chips , ' be mindful about the food label and other contents on the packaging.
