Rain can evoke nostalgic memories and create a sense of happiness and comfort. It can remind people of childhood moments spent playing in the rain or cozy days spent indoors.
When I think of rainy days, it brings back very special memories for me. One memory which is close to my heart, I remember our teacher scheduled a test for us when it started raining heavily.
I woke up in the morning with the fear of taking the test for which I was not prepared. I prayed to God for the cancellation of the test. As I was getting ready, it started raining heavily. I got dressed up and went to school with my father, and to my surprise, we came to know the school was closed that day due to a rainy day.
I was on top of the world when I came to know about it. I returned with my father and came back then changed into my home clothes to go and bath in the rain on my terrace. I played with my siblings a lot in the rain. We made paper boats as well. After we were done, we saw that my mother was making onion fritters. She served them burning hot with chili chutney. We relished the fritters as we watched the rainfall. It was truly one of the most memorable rainy days of mine.
The best moment was to play in rain water without any fear of getting sick or scolded by our parents. We would play in rain water and splash dirty muddy water over each other. It was so much fun wading through the dirty water logged roads from school to home and not waiting for the rain to stop. The raincoats and umbrellas kept safely in our bags by our mom's never had a chance to come out from our bags. There was no fear of wet hairs or getting insect bites on the bare feet in that dirty water on the roads. No fear and no bother at all.
Remember making hearts on the school bus window with the initials of your crush? Yes, it sounds cheesy now, but back in the 90s our hearts skipped a beat thinking of them in the rains and the best we could do about it was creating silly doodles with the window dew.
Going out for cycle races with siblings and friends and competing to see who splashes the most water was a popular monsoon sport for the 90s children.
Sigh! Aren't we really really nostalgic now? Instead of staying inside, we should go call our old friends and make a plan to catch up soon. Enjoy the rain together, grab a cup of chai and see if we find some kids dancing in the rain outside. Relive our childhood days by joining them, it's totally worth it.
