#2.Social Paradox: Is Societal Success The Right Scale To Measure Success?

The norms that wrap us to make a stable society. Is it all mankind’s legacy to leave behind? what makes life successful? More precisely what is the scale to measure? is it the societal success such as marriage, decent job, kids, family… and will It be enough to ensure societal wellbeing. For a country like India is living as a caged crow is better than a caged parrot?

If one’s life is to measure on societal success where is the current place of society itself in the global stage. The endless cycle to maintain stability in a myth of life that we ourselves created, could it ensure the real stability in society. Does societal success shrink bad men to good men? The data may plead to differ. The rising crimes the shift of the pendulum towards a ‘rightist’ world, polarising citizens.

For the men wielding power a sane world is a just world but when the they themselves define ‘Sane’ it is doubtful whether justice could be guaranteed. Principles of natural justice, a greater myth to dispose justice to maintain the real stability of the world is a fading paint in an abandoned house. Societal success has severed almost all the links to Principles of natural justice, take it from the lament of a lame man.

Maslow’s hierarchy of needs could throw some light in to the real scale of success. Maslow alleges that self-actualisation holds the apex of all needs of man. If that is so then realizing one-self should be the epitome of success and the journey of life should in measured in the milestones to reach Nirvana.

The next question that follows up Doesn’t self-actualisation vary from one individual to another? It does. The fact it does completely contradicts the point of societal success where it’s just ‘One size fits all’. But the point is better left to contention.

Or perhaps it is time to break the chains and cycles to find our success but without failing our rights and dharma. The transition, Rights call it revolution and it is not good for the people who cling on to the old, is at our reach but it’s the duty of our hand to extend and seize it.

To sum up, is societal success the success of man or is there something beyond that is reached by so few men, and the lazy instead of pushing their inner frontiers chose to refrain not only themselves but the entire society with them. The scriptures if very holy why only few adhere to it. And most fail in the process of doing so? There could be personal limits but why didn’t the entire society strive for it collectively is a question seldom asked and never a satisfied answer.

The subject matter can be improved by only your thoughts and can enrich on-self and take baby steps towards change.
