Can't visit holy temples while on your periods? Can't water plants? Can't drink cold beverages?
Menstruation is a Symbol of Nature, a Symbol of Women, a Symbol of Life. It is simply a biological process wherein women bleed for 5 to 7 days to form a Life. Still, it is seen to be taboo in some countries. Here are some of the myths about periods.
In India, you can't enter the kitchen or cook food, can't enter a place of worship like temples or any holy place, If you wash your hair, the flow will be less and it will later in your life affect your fertility. But you must wash your hair on the first day of your period to clean yourself. Which makes no sense at all. And women will also contaminate food during their periods.
In the United States while you are on your periods you will be considered clumsy. You can't take a bath, wearing tampons will break your hymen and will make you impure. Can't go camping because they say bears can smell it from far away. Like who knows if it is true or not.
In Italy, you are not allowed to touch plants during your periods, You can't go to the beach or pool like no contact with water.
In Brazil, you can't wash your hair and you are not allowed to walk barefoot, you might get a cramp. I personally never get cramps while walking barefoot.
In Israel country, when you get your first period, you get slapped on your face so you have beautiful red cheeks throughout your life.
In Malaysia, you need to wash your pad before throwing it or else ghosts will haunt you.
In the Philippines, when you get your first period, you have to wash your face with your menstrual blood to have clear skin. Like why?
In Nepal, you can't be in homes or have contact with anybody. Isolated for being unclean. Wow, Like, imagine getting kicked out of your own house for 5 to 7 days.
In Afghanistan, Showering during your periods will cause infertility. It will only lead to a major risk of infection.
In Iran, Menstruation is considered a disease. If you are on your periods you are basically containing some disease.
All I have to say that all the myths are ridiculous and still these myths are followed by women which are holding them back in many ways. Education and making them aware especially in rural areas is necessary and needs to be followed at soon as possible. Many of us should come forward for the same.
