A Normal Sunday With My Family

Sunday is normally the day I spend with my family. I am still an early sleeper and an early riser. My mother is the first to leave the bed. She cleans the whole house before going for a shower.

I woke up around 6 a.m. for the first hour I normally spend on the roof. I love this part of the day. The birds were chirping in the serenity of the morning. I sit cross-legged on the floor of the roof. I keep my eyes close and absorb the silence.

Normally, at 7.30 AM, I go to the market to fetch fish and vegetables. The market is about a kilometre from my residence. I generally ride my bike to reach the market. Roughly 12 to 15 fish vendors sell fish in that market. I go around the fish market at least twice before making up my mind. I generally buy three to four different kinds of fish. Half a kg. of each fish. This is sufficient for a week.

After putting the fish in the bag, I walk to the vegetable vendors. My favourite vegetables are cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, carrots, beans, gourds, etc. Ladies Finder and Brinjal seldom make it to my shopping list.

After returning home, I got busy preparing breakfast. Potatoes are an integral part of our breakfast recipe. So the first thing I do is peel the potatoes. Our staple breakfast features potato curry, soaked nuts, poha, corn flour with milk, fruits, etc. On very rare occasions, we prefer street food for breakfast. As my mom suffers from gastritis, we normally keep outdoor foods at bay.

After the breakfast, I decide on the menu for the launch after consulting with my mom and spouse. Most days, they comply with my choice. The cooking of food is the domain of my spouse and mom. I only help them with peeling the vegetables.

The next two hours, I gave it to myself either by reading books or writing blogs. In some day I do household chores like cleaning of rooms in this time.

Around 1 PM, I take my shower and do a short prayer. After that, we sat down for our lunch. Now a days I am practicing mind-full eating. During the launch, I like to chat with my spouse. It normally takes us half an hour to complete our lunch.

My spouse prefers a post-lunch nap. I like to catch old Bengali movies in the afternoon. The black-and-white movies take me to another time. After finishing the movie, I like to stroll on the roof. In the west, the sky takes on a reddish hue. I look at the old trees standing beside the pond as a witness to my lost childhood.

In the evening, I normally take a walk in the neighbourhood. On some days, I took my spouse for a short ride to the riverside, not far from my place. I complete my lunch by 9 p.m. The next hour, I watch TV with my family. Most of the time, we watch music competition shows. On some days, we watch a quiz show hosted by our dad, Sourav Gangully. At 11 p.m., I call it a day.
