What is racism? Summary
Sometimes it's hard for white people to really understand racism. The main reason is that they don't want to know more about the terrible past of this country. They don't want to hear about slavery, Jim Crow, lynching or the civil rights movement. They definitely don't want to hear about how they're thriving now because of all the terrible things that happened to blacks and people of color in the past, or the things that are happening right now. Unfortunately, the problem is that until white people really understand racism, there's nothing they can do to stop it. Therefore, racism will continue until the end of time. Just saying that gives me goosebumps! However, I know it's true. As you read my articles, you will begin to understand why I put the power to stop racism on white people's shoulders.
Racism in America began as a financial settlement. Africans were merely property used to produce financial wealth for White people. Don't forget many people already had or understood the concept of indentured servitude. So, the idea of having someone else do your hard work was not a new concept. In America racism became an attitude, labeled and tagged by skin color. The African had the most distinguishable skin color. Native Americans know this land all too well. It is very difficult to catch and keep them. The white people's servants could escape to another town and mingle with all the other whites. The owners don't have the technology to issue a full-featured newsletter to white men or women. There's no place for dark-skinned people to hide. Usually, if you're a breathing black person, you already belong to someone. It's very difficult to get rid of that. This left black people with the prospect of being permanently enslaved.
Slavery has not necessarily become what it has become, but as it is often said, absolute power destroys it completely. The greed for power and the alienation of power led to the cruelty of black people. To maintain their slave business, the slave owners had to join other whites. They did this by convincing white people that slaves were not entirely human. This meant that the black slave had to be an animal part. This mentally provided slave owners with a psychological outlet associated with the mistreatment of blacks. If black people weren't human, slave owners would think they could do anything they could..
