Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2 by Mani Ratnam continues the story's ill-fated romance between crown prince Aaditha Karikalan (Vikram) and Nandhini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), which was set in motion in the previous part. The director of PS2 shows us the blossoming of love between a prince and an orphan girl, as well as the heartache it leaves in the wake of them being separated by factors beyond their control, without saying too much through dialogue. PS2 opens with a prelude that depicts their romance when they were young.
In fact, up until the story's finale, this doomed romance keeps the story's tension high and propels the protagonists to take actions with significant consequences.

The lengthy adaptation process of Ponniyin Selvan for Tamil film is frequently attributed to financial constraints. While partially accurate, the novel's verbosity doesn't mesh well with the visual nature of film. Before someone like Mani Ratnam, who has a sensibility for both mediums and could bridge the gap, emerged from the Tamil film industry, it took some time. In the first movie, Mani steadfastly adhered to Kalki Krishnamurthy's novels, which led to criticism that the movie was choppy. While it satisfied the devoted readers, there was still the nagging question of why Mani didn't make some changes to Kalki's book, which is a historical "fiction" with scant supporting data.Ponniyin Selvan is one of the greatest successes in Tamil film because it aims to be realistic in an era of green screens and visual effects. Aditha Karikalan (Vikram) and Nandini (Aishwarya Rai) are introduced in a captivating prologue that flashes back to their teenage years. Mani Ratnam has a tonne of imagination, which is just what this scene requires. You get the impression from the filmmaker that Nandini and Karikalan must have met in a similar manner. Of course, while he was seated on the horse, smirking, she would have strolled past him at the riverbank wearing her effortful smile. All of it happened. You can believe it thanks to good films. Mani Ratnam is aware that you can't get there by using solely elaborate sets and CGI.

Larger-than-life images, intense action sequences, and conflict amongst important characters bring Kalki's expansive literary universe to life. This part two of Ponniyin Selvan is a great conclusion, and there is never a dull moment. As a true expert in his field, Mani Ratnam doesn't need to prove anything to anybody. Here, the master's masterpiece ascends to a higher plane of illumination to demonstrate how the development of important characters takes centre stage in the Cholan Throne game. The mesmerising sights created by Ravi Varman are like poetry on film. The elaborate and beautiful detail used to display the sets, enormous battle scenes, and regal castles - I salute Thotta Tharani, sir, and his team. ARRs BGM is really mellow, and the tunes are appropriate.
