Kumbhakaran from Ramayana, a character who sleeps for for six months and awake for another six months. This story has been for ages. What would be your reaction if I tell you that there is Kumbhkaran in the modern world? yes it is.
A man from Rajasthan's Nagaur district sleeps for 20-25 days a month or we can estimate that 300 days a year. This is due to the rare medical condition called Axis Hpersomnia . He is called as real life โKhumbkaranโ or modern day โKhumbkaranโ by his villagers. Purkharam , his age is 42 years old and he is a resident of Bhadwa village from Nagaur district of Rajasthan state , operates his grocery shop 5 days a month.
Pukharam was diagonised for the rarest disease Axis Hypersomnia, 23 years ago, since then this rare disease has impacted his life in the worst form. Since then it is very difficult to wake him up. Whenever he sleeps it is very hard to wake him up.
AXIS HYPERSOMNIA is caused due to the fluctuation of aprotien present in the human brain, it is also called TNF ALFA , this is related to various disease related to sleping problem.
There are two types of Hypersomnia:-
1 primary
2 secondary
Primary Hypersomnia has no other medical conditions but excessive fatigue.
Secondary Hypersomnia occurs due to medical conditions , like kidney failure, chronic fatigue syndrome, or anything that makes it very hard for you to sleep.
If you keep experiencing this problem on regular basis , it is advised to consult a doctor.
The doctor will monitor your sleeping habits and asks questions like, when do you wake up, do you tend to fall asleep during the day, do you have emotional problems etc.
Delaying in treatment can also lead to consequences in later in life.
The treatment can be based upon medications and anti -depressants. To prevent this condition, one should stay away from caffeine.
Purkharam said to a media agency that whenever he wakes up he found bundles of newspaper outside his grocery store and according to the number of newspaper he founds that for how many days he had slept non stop and continuous. He is survived by his wife Lichmi Devi and mother Kanvari devi. Both of them took care of him. They bathe change his cloth,wash him and even feed him with their hands. After so many treatment, when wife and mother came to know that there is no treatment and cure for this, now they have decided to believe in their beliefs and praying that he returns to his old normal life.
