Last year in July 2020,The ruling Government released a New Education Policy ;which they have already discussed in their manifesto in 2014 Election .The New Education Policy has been drafted by former ISRO chief, Dr. K. Kasturirangam. He formed a committee of 9 members and with the recommendation of them all formed a National Education policy. Later on which has been renamed and passed as New Education Policy 2020.This is one of the 3rd Education policy of our country after 1968 and 1986.The new education policy revamp the education ,teaching in schols and colleges etc. Earlier the govt was trying to implement in 2015 under Smriti Irani but it was failed. Under this new policy HRD ministry has been renamed as βMinistry Of Educationβ.
Now we need to know the most important changes which has been made in New Education Policy 2020 :- A.5+3+3+4 Format- The 10+2 system will be divided into 5+3+3+4 format. The first 5 year will be of foundation stage ;3 years of pre primary school together with class 1 and 2.The second will be preparatory stage for 3 years (class 3-5) ,third is middle stage for 3 years (for class 6-8) and last is secondary stage of 4 years(class9-12). B. Schools will not have any rigid formats of streams like arts, science and commerce. Student have right to choose which subject they want to study irrespective of any particular stream. C. Mother Tounge as a medium of instruction -This has been recommended by NEP but hasn't been made compulsory so that children can easily learn the things very easily .Till class 5 it should be followed in both private and government schools. D. Efforts will be made to incentivize the merit students who are economically weaker. NEP with the help of national scholarship portal will be providing scholarship to students to encourage them. E. Standalone Higher Education Institutes should become multidisciplinary by 2030 as NEP focuses on βbroad based-flexible learning" ; institute offering single education has been phased out. F. HECI (Higher Education Commission Of India) will be setup as single body for entire higher education except medical and legal studies. There will be no UGC,AICTE,NCTE. G. Exit option in Degree courses-In undergraduate(3 to 4 year degree)program ;if student wants to drop out after 1 year they will get a certificate in discipline or professional areas, if after 2 years will get a diploma certificate, after 3 years(bachelor's certificate) and after 4 years (bachelor degree with research.) H. Academic Bank of Credit will be made compulsory-it will digitally store the academic credit of student in higher studies and the student can continue after dropout when they are back. I. MPhil to be scrapped J. Foreign colleges will be permitted to open their colleges in India. K. Vocational and technical studies will be made compulsory, there will be focus on skill development of student. I end my today's blog here only and I will come up with a new blog where i will let you know about the changes for teachers and academics in NEP2020.
