Here is my article on feminism, which popped in my head lately after I bumped into some of the standpoints of the feminist, Gloria Steinem. Before we go into '' what is feminism?'', we'll look into ''why feminism?''. Women across many parts of the world, struggle to voice out the problems they are facing, their yearning to come out of all the inequalities. I think feminism is important not to demean men but to get women their fundamental rights. As a famous saying goes ,''freedom cannot be achieved unless women have been emancipated from all forms of oppression.'' Of course, a lot of rights have been given to women but still, many are denying women of their basic rights. Why is it much of a deal if a girl or a woman wants just to be educated? Not to mention the harassment they face if they go to work or to school in spite of not being allowed to. The main reason why I am writing this article is the sexual harassment faced by women, well even young girls all over the world. Many say that women 'invite' those harassments because of their way of dressing. Women's wardrobes are used as a mere excuse for sexual crimes. To all those who believe in the myth- don't teach women how to dress, instead teach your sons how to look at and treat women. Guys, it isn't rocket science. Whenever you look at a woman with an unusual perspective, remember that she could be one among your mothers, sisters or even friends. Feminism cannot be achieved just by giving women equal rights to earn or to study, but by giving them freedom to walk alone on roads at night. Now, into what is feminism. Feminism is about bringing equal rights to women, not a paper to be stamped on, or a mere fact to be scorned. In spite of many women empowerment programs, it blows me that women are still treated as a subtle in many places. We all have come across people claiming that women need not be educated. But many are striving to lend women a helping hand to get out of the crestfallen situation.
Women rights are achieved when a woman can do anything or go anywhere she wants and it gets apparently fine with everyone. Everybody wants peace in the world right? We all do. But why is it literally no one coming up to voice out women’s struggles? Because equality has nothing to do with world peace? Sure it does! When equality prevails, the world flourishes regardless of racial or sexual differences. In fact, equality is a number one predictor of world peace, according to researches. Let’s be honest. Whenever we hear about a woman being deprived of education or when she is sexually abused, the internet will be loaded with posts and hashtags right? But for how long? A day or two? What happens the next day? Everyone goes on with their own work. Let it not be just about posts. Let us try to work against it. Just because one speaks about feminism, it doesn't mean he /she is a men hater. It is just a theory of equality of sexes. Many people look at feminism as an uncomfortable word. Why? Is it scary to be a feminist? Why are you making such a fuss just to talk about feminism? No, you don't have to be. Turn over a new leaf. It is a new era and it is not trivial to be a feminist. Let us change. Change your perspective on women. Let it be a future world that treats both the sexes as equal.
