Malignant is one of my favorite recent films. It is directed by one of my favorite directors, "James Wan," who has directed films such as "The Conjuring," "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," "Anabelle," "Lights Out," "Insidious," and others.
It's a nearly two-hour possession thriller about a woman who is haunted by a vengeful killer who may or may not be her imaginary childhood friend.
The story begins with a pregnant woman named "Madison" who is also working. She has an abusive husband who refuses to go work and instead stays at home, drinks, and abuses her. He pushed her during an argument one day, and she was injured in the back of her head. Madison will go unconscious as a result of that. When she wakes up, she will find a demon inside her house following by the dead body of her husband. Madison's sister "Sydney" came to rescue her and get her admitted to the hospital. She will undergo an abortion. After few days Madison will get back to her routine.
When things return to normal, Madison will begin to have visions of a serial killer who murders people. He'll have an unusual appearance. A massive man in a black dress with no proper face and long hair. Madison will scream in every nightmare she has with him. Days later, she discovers that all of the people he kills in her nightmare are actually dead. She complains to the police, but she is arrested as a suspect in the murders.
In one of her nightmares, she will inform the police of the location of the murder. When the police investigate the location, they will discover the killer fleeing and will miss him. Madison will then discover that it is her childhood imaginary friend βGabrielβ.
Madison's family will investigate her past and childhood and discover that she was adopted from a teen girl who became pregnant unexpectedly. Madison was born as a twin, with one of the twins undeveloped and growing as a parasite on Madison's back itself.
Doctors will operate to remove the tumor, but they will not be able to remove it from her head. Which, in turn, grows and use Madison in her own body. The doctor will claim that the tumor is taking control of her brain, causing her to sleep and using her body to kill.
When the tumor tries to kill Madison's sister Sydney because of the possessiveness it had on Madison, Madison will do everything she can to control the tumor in her head and save her sister. That is how the film concludes.
It's available through Amazon Prime.
Have fun while watching it.
