Here's a review on 13 reasons why, an American teen drama television series which I had watched recently. How could I not share such a series which made me binge watch it an entire weekβ¦Let's get started!!!
STORYLINE: It follows the story of Hannah Baker, a high school freshman and the thirteen reasons why she commits suicide.
13 Reasons Why, which follows the fallout after the suicide of Hannah Baker and unravels the web that led her there. It clearly talks about the challenges of being in a high school. It is more than standard entertainment. This is one of the rare Tv series that not only alter people's perceptions but life too. For a teen drama to be this honest and raw, it was a pleasant surprise. I was able to see some incredible performances from the lead cast. A lot of people have criticized the show's impact over the years, saying it was doing more harm than good. I would beg to differ. As a person who has been bullied and seen their fair share of bullying, the show is a honest take on how high school life is. Though high school life was not always this dark, it has moments that mirrored what happened in this show. It was only impactful series where I felt that every episode had mattered .It's sad that the other seasons never lived to the quality of first season. But the first season will always live on in terms of the impact it made. One thing I know for sure is that the series will break barriers for the better. The only major negative is the way how the show ended. It stated a much needed mental health and other topics within high school , families and it was a cultural reset. The way they showed Hannah slitting her wrists in graphic detail still circulates in my mind. The show was upsetting, but it upset me in a manner that made me more cognizant of the issues Hannah faced leading to her death. The drama is sensitive, surprising, consistently engaging and most importantly unblinking.
That's all for the review. It's a 9.2 rating from my side out of 10 and a must watch. If you wanna watch it, its available on Netflix. Share your experience in the comment section if you had already watched it and let me know your favorite character.
